Actually, one of the "Willie Nelson" tracks has a fan-freakin-tastic Bop solo on it, now that I think about it.
Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Oh man, I've been meaning to pick this up. I guess now I HAVE to. JJ is one of my favorite of Miles' albums, if not my absolute favorite.
Yeah, man. It blew me away. I thought On the Corner was as good as it gets, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. (edit - but, just for clarity, "He Loved Him Madly" is on Get Up With It, and GUWI seems pretty uneven.)
I thought On the Corner was as good as it gets, but I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
I've got the In A Silent Way sessions 4-disk (5?) release, which is quite good. However, the session stuff there tends towards the noodling (lots of Zawinul) - I think in that case they culled the right stuff for the actual album.
Okay, am I the only person in the world who gets all happy when Usher's "Yeah" comes on the radio?
I suspect I am, but I thought I'd check.
First word on the new Interpol. Influenced by Gentlemen? Interesting.
Am I imagining it, or is that album getting props as a major influence all over the place lately? I remember seeing it mentioned in hayden's zine and a couple other places, and now Interpol (or Interpol's blog).
Since it's in my top-of-head top 5 for the decade, I have no argument, but it is interesting how some albums seem to last like that.
What is Gentlemen? A band, a CD, what?
What is Gentlemen? A band, a CD, what?
An album by Afghan Whigs.
I was talking about it recently because a musician friend of mine wanted to get a group of women together and do it as a dirty blues.

He's got to take seven and he might take yours.
Or something.
Thank you, David.
Am I going to have to revisit all my assumptions about what music was missable in the early 90s now? Will the Lemonheads make a comeback?
Will the Lemonheads make a comeback?
Evan Dando is touring with the MC5.
I think because I grew up in a relatively fallow period, I've always welcomed the opportunity to go find stuff from the recent past. It's best to get it when the fuss is over, and it's cheap and readily available. Britpop was easy to pick up after it was a dead. That's when I sat down and listened to scads and discovered the undeniable truth that Blur crushes Pulp like a teeny weeny Republican meanie. (Really, it's all about Coxson's guitar and Albarn's melodies.)
