Butting into the techical discussion to answer the musical question:
The song I smacked myself on the forehead for forgetting is "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" by U2. 'Twas not only written for a movie (The Million Dollar Hotel, which I suspect only diehard U2 fans saw), but the title and lyrics were taken directly from the Rushdie book of the same name.
Love that song. Hate self now.
but the title and lyrics were taken directly from the Rushdie book of the same name.
And the book was inspired by him touring with U2.
I can't figure out how to convert on MusicMatch. I sorta just jumped in using these things taht came uploaded on my computer and I suspect they are not the best featured versions of the products.
I am just going to re-rip my CDs as MP3s.
No kidding?! How did I not know that? (Re: Rushdie/U2)

U2 Teams Up With Salman Rushdie
Well, I did know about that. I jsut didn't know it was based on his touring with the band.
I'm still peeved that only the Brits got the song at the end of All That You Can't Leave Behind.
And while I'm in peeved mode: Hey! U2 camp! Let's get a freakin' official word on the new CD! Some rumors say May. Some say March. Some say not until fall, and then still others say not until next year!
Unacceptable! Want CD now! Now! NOW!
And now I have run out of exclamation points.
I am just going to re-rip my CDs as MP3s.
An excellent idea. However, I am obsessive about quality, so I plan to rip the songs for my comp as uncompressed .wav files.
I jsut didn't know it was based on his touring with the band.
I haven't heard it before either, and I remember reading an interview with Rushdie when the book was published. Which isn't to say it isn't true...
Salman didn't go on the whole tour with them, he just dropped in unexpectedly from time to time and got to hang out with them.
He showed up on stage during one of the Zooropa London concerts -- Bono as MacPhisto placed one of his mid-concert phone calls to him, and he popped on stage.
Bill Flanagan, however, did get to spend the entire tour with the band, and wrote a huge book called U2 at the End of the World. It's a must read for any big U2 fan, and is often hi-larious.
