My conversation with Emmett this morning.
Emmett:
[as I'm putting in a CD for our commute]
"Awww. I wanted to hear KFOG."
Me: "Okay."
Emmett:
[upon hearing a generic folky pitching some benefit]
"Uh, actually that CD is okay. I'd rather hear some rock and roll."
Me: "You would? Well, I do happen to have a really rocking compilation here. The Rough Trade rock and roll comp."
Emmett: "Can you turn it up full blast?"
Me: "Yep, for a little bit anyway."
[cranks up Iggy's "I Got A Right" to 11]
Emmett: "That. Was a really great song. I could feel it in my chest."
On an unrelated note, Kozik's personally declared the poster I did for the Kinks tribute band (the one I sent DX) to be the ugliest thing he'd ever seen on Gigposters.com.
On an even more unrelated yet tangential note, I have an autographed copy of the Kinks' Misfits album hanging on the wall of my back room. Whem my five (and a half) year-old niece came to visit this weekend, she refused to go in there until I took it down and removed it from the room, because it was weird and scary. Art critics, go figure...
I'm trying to think of a Kinks cover that DXM's niece wouldn't mind.
Muswell Hillbillies
isn't too scary. And
Schoolboys in Disgrace
is at least cartoony.
I've been trying to fill in my late 70s British rock and roll gaps, and bought the second Ultravox album (Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!). This is when they were still John Foxx's band and arty/glam/guitar instead of the New Romantic
Vienna
Midge Ure edition. It's pretty great.

The other cover I have on the wall is Low Budget. She didn't mind the hooker at all.
Does anyone know anything about Morcheeba? I'm kind of obsessed by my downloaded copy of "What New York Couples Fight About."

bon bon does. She included them on the trip hop mix she made for me. I think she favors one of their albums above all others. Perhaps the first one?
I have 2 Morcheeba CDs in my car, courtesy of the Cincinnati Public Library. I like them.
I realize that was possibly the most unhelpful post ever.
If this helps, the BtVS episode "Passion" (S3) has a Morcheeba song at the very beginning, when the Scoobies are dancing at the Bronze.
Wow, Jon, you really hate that guy who has the show after yours. He's obviously annoying the crap out of you.
That's Peter Choyce. He lives in L.A. now, and was just filling in this past Friday. I don't really hate him. He's annoying but amusing. We have a shtick.
So, I was thinking more about Velvet Revolver on the way back from Lee's this evening, listen to the new song again (it has hit the airwaves hard), and I had the following thought:
You know what the real tragedy of Scott Weiland is?
He's alive and Lane Staley is dead.

Well, they both played Heroin Roulette and only one of them won. Or lost. It's hard to tell in that game. Weiland is the most clueless alternadude of them all. He just...he never had an effin' idea what he was doing. I used to enjoy just watching all the STP song titles come up and they were always always immediately derivative of something somebody else did six months previously. By god if the cool kids were talking about industrial products, then Weiland was going to name his songs after industrial cleansers too!
