Up with the sun

Liz Phair?

Yep.

plus three others I'm pretty sure I have heard

Hmmm... Helium? Nirvana? Pavement? Maybe Versus?

Yes to Helium and Nirvana; the third is Huggy Bear. I might have heard the Pavement and Versus, but there's not as much bell-ringing going on for me with them.

(If you do not mind a wordy answer: The Huggy bear song was on a LOT of indie/riot grrrl mix tapes I got when I was doing a zine in high school, but I had to look for the words on Google to remember what it sounded like. All Helium songs sound basically the same to me, but I've heard most of them. The Nirvana is the most iffy -- I've *probably* heard it just because I've heard so much Nirvana, but it wouldn't surprise me if it passed me by.)

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

3 out of 4. Not bad. (yessss!!!! [pumps fist]).

The Helium song only ever appeared on their first 7" (pre-Matador). The Nirvana was also their first 7" and is a Shocking Blue cover (of "Venus" fame). The Versus is also from an early 7" and also appeared on a singles collection that appeared later.

That Huggy Bear song ROCKS.

And thank you Dr. T.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That Huggy Bear song ROCKS.

As I recall, Jim go to spend some time with Huggy Bear.

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Hello peeps! I hope you've all been good while I've been gone.

I have discovered the magical world of mp3 blogs! Whoot!

Yesterday I downloaded Shatner's Rocket Man, the Stanford Marching Band doing "Roundabout" (yes, the Yes Roundabout, it's hilarious), and a bunch of Thin Lizzy songs.

And if y'all don't know the Better Propaganda website, go there now and download Camera Obscura's "Teenager." I'll wait. Look, I'll even give you a link. [link]

Yesterday I downloaded Shatner's Rocket Man

I think Nimoy's cover of Proud Mary may actually be worse. It too is more spoken-word than actual singing, and yet Nimoy still feels compelled to pronounce it: "Big wheel keep on toinin', Proud Mary keep on boinin'"

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

A friend of mine burned me a copy of "Golden Throats" months ago, and I finally got around to listening to it. Shatner's "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is just about the funniest and most frightening thing I've ever heard.

Pray tell, what are MP3 blogs?

Mp3 blogs are blogs where people put up links to mp3 for you!

I like music.for-robots.com. No surprise there ... he links to a lot of interesting people, too ...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Now playing: Queen - "The Prophet's Song." Great song, if you like pretentious '70s rock.

I got it on iTunes, along with "I'm In Love With My Car" (featured in that Jaguar commercial).

Queen's A Night at the Opera was the first album I ever bought, when I was about 13. Good times.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Hec, you might enjoy this interview with Amanda Palmer. I think I want to use her pick-up line.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

That is a brilliant line.
