I'm pretty sure that Mould quote is from Azerrad's "Our Band Could Be Your Life", but I haven't got the book with me to check.
'Destiny'
Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
I caught the last third of that. Unfortunatly, I can't get to the archives at work (firewall) so one of these days I'll have to listen to it at home.
I did really enjoy the part that I heard.
Heh. It's like a Reagan Hate Nostalgia Trip. Just the thing after the week of UTTER BULLSHIT slathered across all media.
They seem to have missed on of my favorites, Kinky Friedman's "Flyin' Down the Freeway."
Well, it’s retro rocket time inside my attic
I’m all wrapped up in the flag to keep me warm
Got my brain locked in the cruise-o-matic
Rollin’ Ronnie Reagan in suppository form
(Not punk, of course, but it kept running through my head during the Reaganfest.)
What's that web site that has tons of info on any band you look up?
(I have the bookmark on my iBook, which is at home.)
All the Reagan-Punk nostalgia has made me search for info on The Urban Guerillas, a Minneapolis punk band of the mid-late '80s. There is an Australian band of the same name which dominates my googling.
Hell, I'm always nostalgic for anti-Reagan rock. I was playing Reagan Youth the other night (although not for long - I just don't have the tolerance for hardcore anymore).
I am drowning in mix CDs!
Thanks Hec, I got the giant package o' CDs. My postal carrier was even excited about it.
So.many.new.mixes. I am listening to Kate's mix AIFG. (How did I forget that you put Charlene's "I've Never Been to Me" on there? That is the first song I ever learned all the lyrics to. I think I was four or so. I hadn't heard it in probably 20 years and I still got every word right.)
Thanks, Jon.
Sadly, no luck there on The Urban Guerillas.
It's so hard to find info on obscure bands that predate the internet.
edit:
"I've Never Been to Me"
I. Fucking. Hate. That. Song.
But mostly because of associations with my high-school girlfriend.
I am drowning in mix CDs!
What a way to go though, huh? And fortunately you've got the time to enjoy them now.
