But it's his rhyming of "cloth" with the ice planet of "Hoth" from the Star Wars movies (which also doubles as metaphor for the color of his subject's skin) that elevates the song to the stuff of, yes, genius.

Sounds like it is worth reading. And I was shocked that the reviewer (Joe Klein) actually had positive things to say about Jay Farrar. Well, one positive thing.
So I finally picked up some new music today. Felt like it had been forever since I went CD shopping. I got Calexico's Hot Rail because it seemed summer-appropriate. I only know them through one live show (amazingly well-rehearsed) and a spattering of songs on mixes from folks. So far, I like it.
The music store guy begged me to listen to Devendra Banhart's album Rejoicing in the Hands.
I liked it in the store enough to get it. I am of to AMG him and figure out who the hell he is.
Yay new music.
