Buffy? I like that. That girl's so hot, she's buffy.

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

I second that recommendation. Calexico never fails to be fascinating.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

I know EFO! I used to work for a small music management company that handled their merch.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Rock! I'm glad they're at least somewhat known. Now I just have to make fans out of you.

My reactions to various commercial co-options...

My favourite of these was an Australian airline (now defunct) that used The Who's "My Generation" as a theme tune. Dudes, you're an airline. You're using a song that includes the lyrics "I hope I die before I get old." Think about it.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

It's a full service airline.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Is it any weirder really than a cruise line using "Lust for Life"?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Is it any weirder really than a cruise line using "Lust for Life"?

Hey, it's just like hypnotising chickens!

That's what the kids are calling it these days?

I have a request for DC-area musicistas.

My friend and I are putting together a show of music and other entertainment to benefit the House of Ruth, a local battered women's shelter. It's called EstroFest, this is the third or fourth annual one, and it traditionally features bands that have women members. It celebrates the Ladies Rocking, you know.

We'd like to get a band from DC to play but are not familiar enough with the scene down there to know who we might ask. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Mary Timony just moved back to DC.
