Where's Tina? I found a song I think she'd REALLY like -- "Star, Star" by the Frames. I like both the studio version (which is on Emusic) and the live version (which I found on some mp3 blog or another, which led me to go look for the studio version, and which picks up a bit of "Pure Imagination" in the middle, to tremendous crowd approval). Anyway, I think she'd like it. I do. It's kinda Sufjan-y, kinda Wilco-y.
In other random new music news, I am really enjoying the new Magnetic Fields.
Hey, Erinaceous:
I am so in love with a country-western cover of Snoop's "Gin and Juice" by a band called The Gourds. Has anyone else heard it?
The Gourds are an Austin band including Max Johnston, the former go-to guy in Wilco & Michelle Shocked's brother. Their website: [link]
Over the weekend, I heard a folk-y cover of "Little Red Corvette" that ROCKED MY WORLD. FYI.
The Gourds are good!
Max Johnston's "Harlan," which he recorded during his brief stint with Freakwater, is one of my favorite songs.
It was live, Lilty, but I will be keeping my eye out for a recorded version, oh yes I will.
Jesse! You went to the Prince Loser's Lounge! How was it? Please, please, make them extend it another weekend ...
I realized that I have ANOTHER Gourds song on my iPod, "El Paso," from the Oxford American CD which I also love. I think more Gourds are in my future.
Jesse! You went to the Prince Loser's Lounge! How was it?
The "Little Red Corvette" was definitely a highlight. Also fun was when one of the singers started with "When I say LOSERS, you say LOUNGE!" I shit you not. (Note: This is not really that kind of crowd. When you look around the room, most people look happy, but no one is moving, and hardly anyone is even singing along.)
LL is doing *Prince*!?!
Damn, I need to go. But I am away next weekend!
Has anyone ever heard of a punk band called Tutu and the Pirates?
