Are you guys seeing the reviews for the new Loretta Lynn album? I might have to get it today if I manage to get out of the house.

Yesterday I heard four tracks from the soon-to-be-released (6/15) Beastie Boys album. How do they do it? They amaze me with their consistent ability to live up to the insane expectations set by their previous albums with each new release (not that every album of theirs is fantastic even by fan-standards, but they have never fully bombed either). Fans expect full, funny, brilliant, dance-able, drive-able, party-able, singalong-able album experiences from each release. That's a lot of pressure. What I heard sounds just as good as their best stuff.

tina, I was just given that Loretta and on a first listen, I really like it. I love love love her. After seeing her in concert a few years ago I spoke in my approximation of her accent for about a week.

god, right now listening to a City Folk Live album from WFUV - Los Lonely Boys "Heaven" - love it.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

I've heard a couple tracks off the new Loretta Lynn and like them.

I listened to the CD. It's rather nice. The lead singer's voice reminds me a bit of Ben Gibbard's. And it's got a good mix of electric guitar and background string arrangements. I haven't listened to the lyrics fully yet.

Someone described it as a nice followup to Coldplay.

I keep reading that, but I'm not hearing the Coldplay so much. Coldplay has a very different sound, in my mind. When I first listened, I thought of Death Cab with a little harder edge. It's not as ethereal as Coldplay; it's much more rock-oriented with the chugging guitars and whatnot. But hey, I love Coldplay, so I would take that as a compliment.
