Angel: You know, I killed my actual dad. It was one of the first things I did when I became a vampire. Wesley: I hardly see how that's the same situation. Angel: Yeah. I didn't really think that one through.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

David, did the Other Music website have what you were looking for? If not, did you find someone to pick it up for you? And if not the latter, remind me what it was & I'll take a look. I'll be leaving around 2 or 2:30 today so get those requests in soon.

Even better, I'm getting the two glam comps I wanted in a swap from the person who put them together. Go gray market!

Anyone want me to keep an eye out for anything in particular?

Hmmmm.

Appaloosa (s/t) (this would only be on LP)
Leopards - Kansas City Slickers (LP only, I think)
Lee Harvey Oswald Band - Blastronaut (CD)
Orgone Box (s/t) (CD)
Jobriath (s/t) (this might be expensive. I'd go to $40 on this. LP)

Thanks, Joe! Don't kill yourself, but if they turn up...

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

Interesting Salon article on the Brian Epstein documentary. Unfortunately I didn't read it until I got home yesterday, and was distressed to see the part about "New York audiences can see [it] in a rare screening on Thursday, April 29, at Manhattan's Jewish Museum."

ETA: hayden, email comin' at ya.

Up with the sun

I just wanted to thank Hayden, Michele T., et. al. for the posts about alt-country. I've been meaning to explore that genre more for a long time, and this gave me a great shopping list for whenever I actually get a job.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Oh, yeah, tina is right on about Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams. Car Wheels is brilliant, but I like Lucinda's Essence a lot too, except for the last two songs which lose my interest completely.

I hate Lucinda Williams. She's booooooring to these ears.

But I do love the Handsome Family, Buddy & Julie Miller, and the Star Room Boys.

Joe: Nothing in particular itching at me. Sounds like fun, though!

I hate Lucinda Williams. She's booooooring to these ears.

Greil Marcus has a serious hate on for her; it seems almost personal. I like her, although she can be excessively mannered. I do like Lucinda Williams, Sweet Old World and Car Wheels. She's okay on John Prine's In Spite of Ourselves, but that one really belongs to Iris Dement. Not that you all need to hear about my Iris love again.

Leaving now. Enjoy your weekend!

You, too!

I thought Greil used to love, love, love her. He must not have been able to get lucky off of that.

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

I'm not big on Lucinda Williams either, from what I've heard. I loathe the song that was played on our "adult alternative" station from her most recent CD. Loathed it.

That being said, I've heard enough raves about the "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" CD that I'd like to give it a listen.

It's mostly more upbeat than the recent one. Having stated my hate-on for Lucinda, I quite like her duet with Emmylou Harris, "Greenville."
