I hate Lucinda Williams. She's booooooring to these ears.
Greil Marcus has a serious hate on for her; it seems almost personal. I like her, although she can be excessively mannered. I do like Lucinda Williams, Sweet Old World and Car Wheels. She's okay on John Prine's In Spite of Ourselves, but that one really belongs to Iris Dement. Not that you all need to hear about my Iris love again.
Leaving now. Enjoy your weekend!
You, too!
I thought Greil used to love, love, love her. He must not have been able to get lucky off of that.
I'm not big on Lucinda Williams either, from what I've heard. I loathe the song that was played on our "adult alternative" station from her most recent CD. Loathed it.
That being said, I've heard enough raves about the "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" CD that I'd like to give it a listen.
It's mostly more upbeat than the recent one. Having stated my hate-on for Lucinda, I quite like her duet with Emmylou Harris, "Greenville."
I just opened Amazon and they think I should check out this album called "Double Nickels On The Dime" by the Minutemen. Hmmm, maybe they're right. While I'm doing that, perhaps I'll try this "Zen Arcade" album by Husker Du that I've heard so much about.
Give it a try, Hayden. Our band *could* be your life.
I don't know. That punk music the kids like can be so abrasive.
That punk music the kids like can be so abrasive.
But look at the catchy titles!
I love Lucinda Williams' two pre-Gravel albums, the eponymous one and
Sweet Old World.
Super spiff, I aver.
I love Lucinda Williams' Lucinda Williams and Sweet Old World. I don't like the later ones as much. And I certainly should have mentioned Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, although again I like the first two albums, Revival and Hell Among the Yearlings, best.
"Essence" is in permanent rotation in my most-used iTunes playlist. I adore that song.
