Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Oh, that poor misguided boy. We're very proud of my friend Harry's 4 year-old daughter Mona, who is a big fan of one of his favorite bands. I believe the exact quote is, "I like the Cwash, Daddy!"

Also, Misha wrote about The Handsome Family so she should be doubly ashamed for overlooking them.

Hec! I *SAID* I must have been ill. Must you add to my grievous shame?

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

Anne, got the CDs yesterday. Thanks!

Misha, are you going to the FMU record show this weekend? Hayden, David, Jon et al.: Anyone want me to keep an eye out for anything in particular? I'm not making any promises, but if I see something you mention & it's not overpriced (meaning not more than I'm willing to shell out at the moment, not whether it's high-priced but really a bargain) I'd be happy to pick it up for you. David, did the Other Music website have what you were looking for? If not, did you find someone to pick it up for you? And if not the latter, remind me what it was & I'll take a look. I'll be leaving around 2 or 2:30 today so get those requests in soon.

Nope, I'm booked up this weekend, but we should meet up soon somewhen else.

She shoots... she scores! Go, you Joyce-channeling neologist, you! Most excellent.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Thanks for the offer, Joe, but I'm good.

Even better, I'm getting the two glam comps I wanted in a swap from the person who put them together. Go gray market!

Anyone want me to keep an eye out for anything in particular?

Hmmmm.

Appaloosa (s/t) (this would only be on LP)
Leopards - Kansas City Slickers (LP only, I think)
Lee Harvey Oswald Band - Blastronaut (CD)
Orgone Box (s/t) (CD)
Jobriath (s/t) (this might be expensive. I'd go to $40 on this. LP)

Thanks, Joe! Don't kill yourself, but if they turn up...

Interesting Salon article on the Brian Epstein documentary. Unfortunately I didn't read it until I got home yesterday, and was distressed to see the part about "New York audiences can see [it] in a rare screening on Thursday, April 29, at Manhattan's Jewish Museum."

ETA: hayden, email comin' at ya.

Up with the sun

I just wanted to thank Hayden, Michele T., et. al. for the posts about alt-country. I've been meaning to explore that genre more for a long time, and this gave me a great shopping list for whenever I actually get a job.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Oh, yeah, tina is right on about Gillian Welch and Lucinda Williams. Car Wheels is brilliant, but I like Lucinda's Essence a lot too, except for the last two songs which lose my interest completely.
