Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

The beauty of random play: something from Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier" followed by Mojo Nixon's "Gin Guzzlin' Frenzy". "Bombay, Tanqueray, Gordon's Old, generic, even bathtub gin made by Eric." From the sublime to the ridiculous, and guess which made me happier!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

"Jolene" is gorgeous, of course, but my favorite Dolly song from that era is "Bargain Store" - which also has an English folk melody out of the Appalachians.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Btw, Hayden, Jon Langford just asked for a copy of the book for a possible blurb.

Which means he will be reading you and Misha on The Mekons.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

  • I* want a copy of the book for a possible blurb, dammit! Though the best I could get for you would probably be Blender editor Rob Tannenbaum, and the blurb would likely be "Ow! Stop hitting me with the book, Misha!"

I'm not at all surprised that a Great Pop Things co-author would read this book; there are other people I wrote about who I'm much more squirrelly about "oh my God what would they THINK!?!"

Also, George Pelecanos, whose latest book is aces.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I totally take credit for Pelecanos being in the book, as Hec had never read him before I sent him a copy of something or other. And I told GP so, too. Of course, then I ran away, but STILL.
