Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
"Jolene" is gorgeous, of course, but my favorite Dolly song from that era is "Bargain Store" - which also has an English folk melody out of the Appalachians.

iiiieeeeeee! Not only is the David Bowie concert next week (!!!), but I was just informed that Rasputina will be playing Seattle on May 27th!!
See the Perkygoth bounce with glee. Bounce, Perkygoth, bounce.

Btw, Hayden, Jon Langford just asked for a copy of the book for a possible blurb.
Which means he will be reading you and Misha on The Mekons.
- I* want a copy of the book for a possible blurb, dammit! Though the best I could get for you would probably be Blender editor Rob Tannenbaum, and the blurb would likely be "Ow! Stop hitting me with the book, Misha!"
I'm not at all surprised that a Great Pop Things co-author would read this book; there are other people I wrote about who I'm much more squirrelly about "oh my God what would they THINK!?!"
Also, George Pelecanos, whose latest book is aces.
I totally take credit for Pelecanos being in the book, as Hec had never read him before I sent him a copy of something or other. And I told GP so, too. Of course, then I ran away, but STILL.

Was there any doubt? Now on the player "As the sun pulls away from the shore and our boat sinks slowly in the west, we approach the island of Lulu -- spelled backwards "Ulul". In the distance we hear Spike Jones and his Wacky Wakakians..." followed by Spike & his cohorts chanting, ululating, burping, farting, banging on stuff and doing whatever else they can think of to make funny noises. My people! Singing my song!
