Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Now the episode of Bands Reunited with Klymaxx is on! This show is so much more entertaining than I thought it would be.
I got a meetin' in the ladies' room...
Just so you know I
did
write about Klymaxx in the book and included this line alluding to you, Shawn: "The chorus spawned an earworm so potent that women still mutter it as they exit for a bathroom break twenty years later."
WHEEEEEE!
I am so fucking chuffed.
eta: that line makes me laugh, too.
Speaking of splits, has anybody noted this week how freaking impressive it is that Prince can do a James Brown split in high heeled boots?
Dude, I've always said that Prince is a better dancer than Michael Jackson, ever since I saw him on, um, Solid Gold or somesuch. He accidentally knocked over his mic stand in mid lyric, and instantly dropped into the splits, caught it before it hit the ground, and came back up, all while still "singing."
And, BTW, the Bowie show I was supposed to go to in New Orleans? Sold out in about 20 minutes, before my buddy was able to get them. So, um, AARRGGHH!!!!!!!!

JZ's comment after watching "Thieves in the Temple": "I wonder when this came out because it's almost like a 'Fuck you, Michael Jackson. I can do those moves anytime I want.'"
eta: that line makes me laugh, too.
Here's the opening:
I admit it; I have fantasized about Eminem covering Klymaxx. It's just..."I had my Kenneth Cole Shoes on/ My Gianni Versace blue leather suit / My nails were done and my hair looked fierce/ The men all pause when I walk in to the room / The men all pause and the brides hold their grooms"...there's a pleasing rightness to it, don't you think? I don't know, maybe Greg Dulli.
I have killed the thread with my own writing.
Tina, I haven't yet mailed you Jon's mix because...I was listening to it in the car this morning. Still, there is a high likelihood it will go out within days, and I'll send it Priority.
I had to explain who Syd Barrett was to JZ this morning, and why the Banana Splits sound so psychedelic on "I Enjoy Being A Boy."
I'm mentally lumping all the John Mayer/Jack Johnson/Dave Mathews guys together. Is that an official sub-genre yet? Does it have a name?
Let's name that genre, okay? I'll start: Strum Dudes.
Acoustic Rock...? Do Elliot Smith and Jeff Buckley count?

No worries. Somehow, I'll survive - also just sending it regular postage is OK - that's what I'm doin' cause I'm el cheapo.
Strum Dudes.
I agree with that. I'd add Ben Harper to that sub-genre.
I'm listening a friend's copy of the Expanded Remix of Modest Mouse's last album
The Moon and Anarctica
right now (I know, you're all shocked). Damnit - it really is different from the original version which means I have to go buy it.
This I Can't Buy New Music Cause I Have No Steady Income thing blows.
I am over
1100 posts behind in the Minear thread so I'll just say it here - I was impressed with the music they used for the first ep of Wonderfalls. I took note of several of the artists they plugged at the end. And then remembered I can't buy them - but still - impressed.

Nah, Elliot's more of an indie chamber pop jangle thang. Jeff's sort of his own category, I suppose.
I agree with that. I'd add Ben Harper to that sub-genre.
Yeah, see, I think Ben belongs over here. It has to do with a particularly lame hopping around guy in cotton drawstring pants, making contorted faces whilst thrashing an acoustic guitar.
Fratcoustic?
tina -- I can't believe you're not
demanding
that Hec FedEx my mix to you, stat.
I enjoyoyoy, being a boyoyoy, in love with youououou, yeaheah...
