Charlie Haden sat in with the Minutemen on at least one occasion
On double bass? I've never heard him on electric even when he was playing in an electric context.
ETA: Mike Watt on d. boon: "he was my best friend since we were thirteen and the reason I started and still to this day play music. his life was cut way too short at twenty seven. I think of him every day. his spirit lives on in the work I continue to do. folks ask what kind of bass player am I. my answer is 'I'm d. boon's bass player.'"
Cindy, the song from the Sopranos last night was "Heaven Only Knows" by Emmylou Harris.
On double bass?
Yeah! Check out the cover for Live at Flynn's Ocean 71 here: [link] N.B. C.H. is not on the Live at Flynn's bootleg.
It will never cease to amaze me that this is the case - I agree with you and am not arguing the point - but if you'd a told me that when Uncle Tupelo broke up and AM and Trace came out (the first Wilco album and Son Volt album respectively) I would have thought you were on the very very crazy-inducing drugs.
Oh hell yeah.
D'oh! I meant "Cathy" when I wrote "Cindy". Sorry.

Moooommmm! Joe the butcher is making me cry.
My radio station loves me. They played me the only Phish song I know I like "Wasted", Richard Thompson's "I feel so good" and just now Bowie's "Life on Mars".
So I finally finished moving (only took a freaking month) and I may actually burn meara's and Anne W.'s CDs tomorrow and send them on to Jon later this week. Stranger things have happened, after all.
Currently listening to: The Nields (went to their show on Saturday night--a very good show, though I'm perhaps a teensy bit biased, but I just love them so much that seeing them always feels like coming home), and
Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris
(saw this in Boston last week and have been humming "Brussels" ever since).
My portable CD player leapt to it's death last week. So I'm wondering if I should replace it with another CD player or get an MP3 player. Can anyone pimp the MP3 player to me? What are the benefits? Drawbacks?
Well, it kind of depends on what you use it for and what kind you're looking at.
Pros: No skipping.
More music (significantly more, if you're looking into the 6gb or larger ones)
Less bulky (especially if you're looking at 128mb ones, which are just about perfect for jogging and the like)
Cons: You have to be at your computer to put new stuff on - not a big deal if you get the big ones, could be a big deal with the small ones.
Sound quality varies depending on the bitrate of the tracks.
Price.
This is assuming you mean the MP3 players, not the MP3/CD player combos. There's no negatives to the combos that I've found, outside of price, since you're just adding functionality to a CD player.
Can somebody give me a quick couple of southern rock bands, newish if that's ok?
