I listened to that over and over, and it sounds like Jerry Lee to me. Clear as can be. I always thought that was Wash's real name. Don't know where "Warren" ever came from, though.
I kinda liked him being Jerry Lee. Especially if you say it kinda slurred, like "Jer'lee." Which is how we say it where I'm from.
I listened to that over and over, and it sounds like Jerry Lee to me.
Naw. It's definitely a hard "k" at the beginning. He gets a little weird 'r' sound going in the middle though. But it's "Kaylee."
Hm. Ask Tim. Or, ask Joss at ComicCon.
Yeah, it sounds to me like Kayrilee.
Isn't he speaking to Kaylee?
I wonder who would write a story where one character is named, say, Bob, and a second character is introduced to us named Larry, except that Larry's real name is actually Dob?
That is to say, despite the fact so many Firefly names are really obvious nouns, they aren't all really obvious nouns that are easily mistaken for one another when spoken aloud. I think you are only allowed to do that on television if you are working with Larry, Daryl and Daryl, and then only if the Daryls don't speak.
Or on Wonderfalls.
(Aaron, Sharon, Darrin, Karen)
Just listened again. I know it isn't, but it still sounds like Jerry Lee to me. Oh well.
I remember Joss saying in an interview way long ago that he gave his character's names with clearly different vowels sounds. Now I think about that whenever I sound out character names in my head. It's a really effective way of distinguishing between characters.
Except when one of the actors kinda slurs someone's name in an odd way.
It sounds like he was starting to say "Jewel" then switched to "Kaylee" at the last possible second.
...Larry, Daryl and Daryl, and then only if the Daryls don't speak.
Or only speak during the finale episode.
