I thought recently turned William was too nice
I was thinking that if the thing with his mother hadn't happened, he would have wound up being another Dalton.
'War Stories'
[NAFDA] We used to get Buffy the day before everyone else, now we get Angel a week after everyone else. And Firefly every Monday!

I thought it was amazing how in days his accent went from Posh William's to the accent Spike has now.

I was surprised to see how much more integrated the man/demon is here on Buffy. No way in hell would unsouled!Spike be fighting happyglowboy!Spike. It's all the same guy, just that one's going to be exercising more criteria before he kills again.
I like that he turned his mother, and I like that she threw sexual attraction in his face. But it mostly wasn't as powerful as I'd have liked, and I spent too much time thinking of the way FFL echoed things, and how that was better (like Spike being driven back towards the wall, by his mother, and by Wood).
I liked also how they said that Dru was his new "mother" since Spike and Dru really had a disfunctional relationship along the same lines as William and his mother.
Just finished watching. Haven't seen last week's Angel yet so I will get them in Canadian order.
I love how Spike was written. I will be delighted if he continues along a no brooding, no excuses path.
Hadn't pictured Dru and Spike so cozy prior to Boxer Rebellion.
Loved Mom and was thrilled with the clarity that Spike has with regard to the demon vs his mother. Mmmm looking forward to watching again tonight.
Also Wood=Hot My screen filled with Spike and Wood was a good thing.
Alas, work prevents me from watching again now. More thoughts later.
I was also disturbed by the fact that William changed his clothes weirdly. That is-- he had the grey mourning coat on with his mother in this ep-- changed to the unsuitable brown for the party and his turning-- then went home after becoming a vampire and changed back into the grey mourning coat? I would think that he would have gotten something new or still been in the brown!
It had been days and he probably got blood all over the brown coat.

But where does that leave Spike/William/demon? I thought that was a bit weird.
I liked that, although he thrilled in the kill, Spike was still a schmoop off the bat. A schmoop to whom love mattered from the get go.
I thought it was amazing how in days his accent went from Posh William's to the accent Spike has now.
But it was still William during the scenes with his mother. He didn't turn into Spike until later - in Yorkshire? - and I see Spike being a direct result of his Mother's taunting. Because she said he was still the same, and William was determined to be different.

Yep.
And I love that he wanted his Mom to come along while he ravaged Europe.

I loved the look on Dru's eyes when he told her. "You want to bring your mother?" Bwah!
