I look more rad than Lutheranism

Becoming I is on FX right now.

Kendra just gave Mr. Pointy to Buffy.

God, I love this show.

When they showed the not!flashback to Buffy's first vamp, I got teary, thinking of everything she was going to go through, and she didn't know it.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

It's the fight scene in the library now. So effective the first time I watched it, gasping in horror as the bookcase fell on Willow, as Xander's arm snapped, as Cordelia ran for her life, as Kendra died, as Buffy knew she was too late.

"Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So, what, are we helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come, can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are. You'll see what I mean."

I tend to hate slo-mo (I think it's manipulative), but BUffy running down the school hallway in slo-mo, knowing she's too late -- also makes me tear up.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Dana, that quote was my signature on my e-mail in the weeks after 9-11 when hatred was high and violations of privacy and civil rights were around the corner. I wish an official had used something like it. It still makes me tear.

Just like people are often anti-slow-mo, I know people are often anti-voiceover, but I love them. And I especially love Joss'.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Voiceover and slow-motion can be very effective. But they can also be very cheesy and abused by hacks. Good slo-mo? The walk in Reservoir Dogs (copied endlessly). Bad Slo-Mo? Buffy's mouse punches during OMWF as Giles sings.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Best slo-mo? The Reservoir Dogs walk in Sex, Death, and Nudity. Damn, I love Coupling.

Ahem.

Sorry.

Should there have been B/X? I think it would have been a showkiller, even though it was probably the "rightest" of the pairings.

It would have been a showkiller for me for the simple reason that Xander as the avatar of Joss getting the girl would have thrown me so far out I couldn't ever get back in. That's my main objection. Well, that and I have a thing for non-romantic friendships (see: Angel/Cordy, objections to).

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

If Xander is Joss's avatar, and B/X is the OTP, wouldn't that make Xander a Mary Sue?

Essentially, yes.
