He felt it was shown. In the end, they decided to tell, anyway. I always thought the scene didn't need the line. I had been shown that Giles loved Buffy as a daughter, time and again. I didnt need friggin Travers to tell me what I had been shown.

FX is showing "The Prom" right now. I have already cried at:

Buffy: "I want my life to be with you."
Angel: "I don't."

And

"I can't breathe, Will! I feel like I can't breathe...."

And it's almost time for the Class Protector award.

In the same vein, when Quentin told Giles, "You have a father's love for the child, Rupert," that's a telling that worked, because it had already been shown, in Helpless itself, and in the series as a whole.

And when Xander tells Buffy (cudgeling my memory here), "Riley really loves you, and you're being a moron 'cause you really love him too, but you're being stubborn and you'll lose him forever," it worked for me since to my mind that had already been shown over the course of the season. So for me, that speech showed the "sees through other people's bullshit" ability that's one of Xander's main characteristics, even though he was entirely talking about other people's feelings.

Eh, people always have beefs. Unnamed sources gossiping in a tabloid are not the most reliable sources.

There are a bunch of links there with Amber and James mentioning how they love Sarah. Maybe Star Magazine's unnamed source was a wardrobe person, and erm... if SMG was bitchy to them this season, I can understand why. I actually missed the eye-bleed-causing ensemble from The Replacement this season.

No, no, no. The arrow runs the other way. I'm saying "If it's told instead of shown, it's probably bad writing". There are many various ways to write badly, and I've committed most of them myself.

Plus, I just look at them all there -- Xander with both eyes, Willow before she went bad and had her lover die in her arms (reverse that order), Giles being Giles, Anya before the insensitivity got old, and Buffy relatively happy -- and want to warn them all what's coming.
