Did anyone check out the official Buffy auction? I didn't get excited about anything they offered - plus people are bidding crazy, insane amounts!
I'd love some of the stuff they had, but I can't spend a paycheck on a $5 bauble that sat on a set for 30 seconds once.
Yeah, I kinda wish I could.

SQUEE!!!
OMG!!! I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!
(Moves smonster up another notch)
::giggles:: I'm moving you up, too. This is fun.
Both books look quite good-I'll probably alternate chapters between them.
The problem is not whether Spike should be allowed redemption; it's not whether there's a difference between Souled!Spike and Unsouled!Spike; it's not whether Spike should be allowed to win back Buffy's heart AR or no AR. The problem is that they've just had Spike come on the screen and say "I have a soul now, I am redeemed," and had Buffy go "okay." This is telling. Not Showing.
I hope it doesn't come as too much of a shock that I strongly disagree-that I think much of the season has been about showing Spike's rocky path to redemption (and Buffy's gradual acceptance of same), that imo it has done so both convincingly and often brilliantly (starting with the church seen in Beneath You, which I consider one of the ten greatest scenes in the entire series). And that last night showed that Spike's trials are not over yet-the FE is trying to use jealousy to undo what has been achieved-a final test of Spike's progress.
Doesn't everyone love The Cutting Edge?
"Toe pick!"
Okay, about the auction?
I want this. Like, badly enough that I placed a bid. (There was a higher bid already in -- which is good for my budget, actually).
But one of Drusilla's dolls would be an AWESOME souvenir.
Plei, re Cutting Edge? I have only this to add:
"These are figure skates, pal."
She was able to recollect and toss him off, but it took a few seconds of clearing the physical pain, and another few of clearing the emotional shock before she was able to do that.
It's possible the choice of photographic angles killed it for me. The big overhead shot of Spike holding Buffy down - no. No and no and no. It was like they were pissing away their own canon.
Also, what I want to know is what spike said to the Big Glowy Eye Demon when he first arrived, not after he finished his trials.
D.B. Sweeny in Cutting Edge...nummy treat...*drooling*
Okay, I'm better now. Holy frijolie! Buffy's outfit at that auction is going for over 3 grand? I'm in the wrong line of work...
re: the spike thing, I have this memory of JM saying that they filmed it both ways -- him getting his soul and him getting his chip removed. Is this a false memory implanted by the monks or did anyone else read this interview?
smonster - the interview I saw didn't say that. I don't think they did film two endings, either. What I read was that JM filmed from Seeing Red through Grave (all but the last scene) without knowing what Spike was seeking, and he didn't want to know it. I think they were going to tell him (JM) and he wanted to act without knowing. That's why I lay some of the blame on acting, direction and writing. The "bitch" line was a bit too much, and "make me what I was" was clunky. Even if James refused to know the answer to the soul/chip puzzle, the director should also have tempered it some (not to take away all mystery, just to take away the need to fanwank to get to where they actually did want to take us). They're all getting spankings from me.
Even taking the attempted rape/redemption/etc. out of it, I think it's pretty lame to have Buffy fall for two vampires. I mean Angel was a special case. Spike? NSM.

I like it. I like the tie to her powers being rooted in darkness. I had hoped this year's origin of the slayer angle would touch on that a bit, but apparently it was more important to see the SiTs eat cereal and cookies.
