I believe consensus is appropriate.
He's hurt the board. He's been educated several times over more than a decade and he hasn't changed for the better. Personally, I avoid all contact with him and don't like to be in threads where he posts. He's not the only reason I've been so gray, but he's definitely be a discouragement to being active here again.
I am in favor of consensus, but I do appreciate the fact that people want to give the chance for others who might be offline to weigh in, so tomorrow night is fine.
I agree that waiting until tomorrow night is good. After Jessica's story, I don't think anyone will disagree, but I want the biggest number of people to agree so that it is more powerful.
Yes, tomorrow night is good.
I think we should follow our own rules here, and either use our official three strikes standard, or vote to make an exception and ban immediately.
I suspect that, as Laura says, it is a deeply rooted unconscious issue rather than outright malice, but that doesn't matter. The end result is the same.
Yes. I believe everyone who has shared that Sunil's behavior made them uncomfortable and unsafe, to the point where some people have left the board or drastically curtailed their involvement. The way he's interacted with me, here and on FB (I'm not active on Twitter), has never made me, personally, feel uncomfortable. But my own POV based on our interactions is absolutely NOT relevant when people have been hurt.
Sunil, if you read this: please do the work to do better, to BE better.
I'm fine with a consensus, and with waiting until tomorrow night to allow plenty of time for people to see this and weigh in.
My only concern, but it's actually a big concern, with consensing to ban is that we are not following our established procedure and I think voting in this exceptional case is suitable. I volunteer to count votes.
This is not about punishing Polter-Cow or teaching him or anything to do with him, really, except his effect on the board. We need to protect our community, which has been damaged. I kinda feel like I just got told that that twinge in my knee that I thought was just a thing that happened when a storm was coming is actually a tumor. How could I not have noticed?
Except I know many habits and characteristics I have that would let me not notice. I'm so sorry.
