Why a consensus rather than a vote?

So far all I have found on banning is this:

Consistent demon-like behavior may earn a warning from the Stompy Feet. If you don't listen to the warning, you will be suspended for two months. And if you come back unreformed, you will be banned. Banning is rare and very much a last resort. >[link]

Can I say I think we might be better off voting- not because I think it wouldn't pass, but because I think it sends a strong message that we as a group formally made a decision and took it as seriously as we do other decisions.

I am not going to make any further arguments regarding this, though, because I think it would be derailing.

is there a vote threshold? we are so inactive anymore I don't know we'd reach a #.

well - we proposed, without any fighting preceding it on the board, that we BAN a member we all know - and it has generated 34 posts. 34!

I posted about this on the FB Buffista page and notified a couple ppl on twitter.

I know it hasn't been much time, but think about past issues and how much discussion they brought up.

It's a Saturday night, though. We need to at least give it through the weekend, I think.

I was harrassed by Sunil many years ago, and cut off all contact. I haven't thought of this incident in a very long time (this was over 10 years ago), but knowing now that I am not the only woman on this board who has been made to feel uncomfortable by Sunil's inappropriate behavior, here it is.

It began after I offered him my couch for the night when he was passing through NYC, and for weeks afterwards I was barraged by multiple daily emails from him which were inappropriately personal and very unwelcome. I told him to stop, and he not only continued to email me, but also started emailing my husband. During this time, he also posted a recap of the trip on the board (in Natter or Bitches, I think) which included bragging about his self-control in not looking down my shirt while he was a guest in my house. (I found out about this through backchannel, as I had already blocked him so I wouldn't have to encounter his creepy stalker bullshit by accident, or be tempted to engage.) I had already stopped posting in threads where he was a frequent poster, in order to avoid any more drama. At this point, I also blocked Sunil from ever emailing me again (I deleted all of his previous emails and set up a filter to send all future emails immediately to the trash) and significantly

(And Sunil, if you see this, I don't want an apology, so don't bother. All I want is for other women you've harrassed to know they're not alone, and for women you haven't gotten to yet to be warned.)

I agree, just my observation on consensus vs. vote.

also putting a bug on my brain that we might need to revisit vote requirements in this day of multiple social media and no active show community.
