Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I guess I'm not seeing the argument for closing these threads. They do get used, if not heavily--which frankly I think is a feature, not a bug. I can't get into B.org during the work day. As a result I can't even hope to keep up with Natter except very occasionally; the volume of posting there makes me not even try.

That there is 40 or 50 posts in Cable Drama or whatever, or in Boxed Set, makes me happy: I know I have a hope of catching up and even participating.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

The only time I have ever caught up in Natter has been holidays or the start of a thread. If the discussion of a show was there, I would never see it. I'm good with that if I am the minority experience, but from Consuela's post, maybe I am not.

I am very rarely caught up in Natter, and I wouldn't know if a show was being discussed there or not either. I feel guilty skipping through Natter just to find a discussion of a show because it seems rude to the community that posts regularly there, and often times by the time I watch a show on my DVR, several hundred posts have passed and it seems useless to add my opinion. However, in the show threads, it's easy to keep up, and I don't feel weird adding a comment even a week after a show has aired.

Natter is disjointed by nature - there are plenty of regular Natterers who jump in with non-sequitors or callbacks to days-old discussions and nobody's bothered.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

yes, that's absolutely the case. but I've wanted to jump in discussions there on occasion when I have time, and it seems I always have the luck of arriving when some serious shit is going down. so I don't feel like being my flippant self is the right tone to strike when there's been a death in a family, etc.

Very much this.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I don't like the idea of using Natter as a catch all thread for television(yes, I see the irony of not wanting to natter in Natter) because Natter moves so quickly on so many subjects. I loved subscribing to Natter, but I had to quit because I just couldn't read it all (well, and get my work done. Stupid work). I think that the only thing that we don't have covered is a Network Drama thread, but the community didn't want it (although I thought that perhaps some people may have voted "no" on a thread non-proliferation basis rather than the utility of the thread, but I digress). Now it seems that we may want it again.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I feel like we have this same discussion a lot, so clearly something isn't working for a good chunk of the community.

My suspicion is that one problem is when a show is being anticipated, but there isn't yet a lively discussion about it on the board. Because that's when people aren't sure where to post and somehow feel that it isn't appropriate to just go into a likely looking thread and just posting. I think it's OK to have discussion of a show going on in more than one thread, but I can see how that could be annoying to someone else.

hip deep in pie

I think an agreement of what would fit in Boxed set is necessary. I would have never put Kings, Pushing Daisies or Chuck in there.

I don't think bucket threads work for casual fans of a genre. I liked talking about TAR, PR and ANTM in Natter and I miss chatting about them with Buffistas, but I don't quite have enough interest to seek out the reality thread. But I would have never watched PR or ANTM if I hadn't heard about them in Natter. I can the exact same thing about procedurals.

My other problem with the bucket threads mostly stems from being an UnAmerican. Cable shows and premium cable are no gos for me, because I am often months behind in getting those shows.

I also don't want us to be the place where you can't talk about a show in a thread because it's not the right thread.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

I think some of the issue with the bucket network Drama thread was people worried about getting spoiled for other shows when they went in to discuss something else, which i totally get when there's so much that could go in that particular thread. i know people are anti-proliferation, but i almost think having a bucket thread for each major network would be a workable solution.
