Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I feel like we have this same discussion a lot, so clearly something isn't working for a good chunk of the community.

My suspicion is that one problem is when a show is being anticipated, but there isn't yet a lively discussion about it on the board. Because that's when people aren't sure where to post and somehow feel that it isn't appropriate to just go into a likely looking thread and just posting. I think it's OK to have discussion of a show going on in more than one thread, but I can see how that could be annoying to someone else.

brillig

I guess I'm not seeing the argument for closing these threads. They do get used, if not heavily--which frankly I think is a feature, not a bug.

So much wrod it should be embroidered on something.

I think an agreement of what would fit in Boxed set is necessary. I would have never put Kings, Pushing Daisies or Chuck in there.

I don't think bucket threads work for casual fans of a genre. I liked talking about TAR, PR and ANTM in Natter and I miss chatting about them with Buffistas, but I don't quite have enough interest to seek out the reality thread. But I would have never watched PR or ANTM if I hadn't heard about them in Natter. I can the exact same thing about procedurals.

My other problem with the bucket threads mostly stems from being an UnAmerican. Cable shows and premium cable are no gos for me, because I am often months behind in getting those shows.

I also don't want us to be the place where you can't talk about a show in a thread because it's not the right thread.

I think some of the issue with the bucket network Drama thread was people worried about getting spoiled for other shows when they went in to discuss something else, which i totally get when there's so much that could go in that particular thread. i know people are anti-proliferation, but i almost think having a bucket thread for each major network would be a workable solution.

I think PD totally belongs in Boxed Set, but as for the others a Network Drama thread would speak to that need nicely.

I'm not sure how to address the spoilage issue with bucket threads as I tend to be spoiler avoidant but not spoiler averse, which means I tend not to care about getting spoiled. And I admit I'm probably less sympathetic than I could be about others' wishes to remain pure.

I'm with ita on not understanding the confusion about what falls under Boxed Set. SFF seems a fairly bright line to me.

(I do understand that the thread doesn't work for everyone because it's a bucket thread, period.)

See, Pushing Daisies to be seems to be a Genre buster...a little comedy, a little crime, a little of the fantastical, a little romance, a tiny bit of drama. It would be like saying Amelie is a genre movie. I don't get it being in the same thread with BSG.

Every episode involves people being magically brought back from the dead - I'd say that makes it fantasy. (Magical Realism if we must, but still pretty definitively paranormal.)

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I think that Magical Realism is appropriate in Boxed Set. Although I suppose we could create a Magical Realism thread runs away from people throwing guacamole.
