But we would explicitly be designating Other Media as a place to discuss gaming, at least for the duration of the experiment. Would that not help with the reticence?
*shrug* Maybe. It was mentioned that gaming was included in the "charter" for OM and I didn't see any gaming talk take off there, so...I tend to doubt it.
But, I must admit, I proposed the thread, I want the thread so I may be biased.
Aw. Well it was in reaction to the Dollhouse thread talk, not this, but point taken.
I am, however, sick of the talk, which means I should just stay out of these threads. So many people attacked and like victims and we do it every quarter or so. My problem, I get it.

It might. The thing is, sometimes there are capes in gaming.
Seriously, here are my thoughts about 30 Days of Gaming in OM:
PRO:
- I would love a place to talk about gaming here (RPGs, console, computer, board, the whole shebang)
- There are three Jossverse RPGs I know of, and a couple computer games, so it seems to fall under the board's umbrella
- Games are Other Media, and while that is sort of a catch-all thread, it doesn't seem like there's so much action in it as to make the gaming posts hard to pick out
CON:
- I have a hard time digging posts I'm interested in out of busy threads (I stopped reading Natter and Boxed Set for this reason). Especially when there's a risk of being spoiled (in the case of games, you can be spoiled for computer games...at least you could back when they had stories), I don't like taking that risk.
- The multitude of possible topics that could fall under "gaming" is so vast it might well take over OM (although this isn't a CON so much as an end-state for the test)
- "Other Media" is liberally named, but was originally a thread specifically for comics and graphic novels. I think if we compare the interest base (in terms of Buffistas and in terms of products to discuss) for graphic media to the base for games, we'd see close to parity.
I get what MM says about gamers still being in the closet. I was joking with someone today that I'd rather tell people I "impress" new members of the Fundamentalist LDS than that I game. But I honestly don't have an issue with flying my geek flag here, whichever thread I end up posting in.
Aw. Well it was in reaction to the Dollhouse thread talk, not this, but point taken.
Sorry to call it out so explicitly, but it seemed to summarize the vibe that I got from a number of the reactions to the proposal.
So many people attacked and like victims and we do it every quarter or so. My problem, I get it.
Well, I think it is a problem for all of us, but I don't see how the underlying situation can really be resolved since some people want new threads and some people don't.
the majority of us can ignore the posts when they start?

As I recall from the dim recesses of my memory, it was originally a thread to discuss the Jossverse in any other media form, inclusive of games, tie-in novels, what have you.

I defer to your dim recesses. I guess there wasn't enough activity on the Buffy XBox game or RPG for anyone to post there about games, and I for one wouldn't have felt right posting in OM about non-Jossverse games.
Another alternative: The gamers could take over
Sang Sacre,
since it's already sort of an RPG / Virtual World / (not-massively) Multiplayer Online thing.

Yes. The media shrank and the universe expanded (in practice, not by rule, just to be very clear about that point.)

I don't like that idea, since I'm more interested in the gaming thread to talk about non-RPG video games.

I think it is presumptive to assume majority.
