As far as the issue at hand goes, I think it's important for board health that we are as willing to close threads as necessary as we are to open them. As necessary. Which, clearly, is open to some interpretation here.
If the people using the threads don't really want them any more, like the book club, then closing them makes sense. If they're still important to people, despite low traffic, I don't see the point of closing them.
Hi, I exist. How many more are there?
I thought you came because of the book...
What I meant was that we're rarely going to pop to the top of anyone's hunting for Firefly list. There are plenty of places that come to mind before us.
I dunno. I love the show more than most, but I don't think it is of sufficient mass to maintain a thread anymore.
Dunno what it would hurt.
Oh, said in such innocence...

Dunno what it would hurt.
I've been through a few kerfuffles here, and frankly, I "dunno what it would hurt either." Although, I do get your point, ita.
I did come because of the book. And writing aside (please don't think I'm down-playing it), considering what's come from it, it's one of the better ones I've bought all year. But like I said I went Firefly to Buffy. I love Buffy, great show, but I'm a hardcore Firefly fanboy. It'd mean a lot to me to keep it.
I also want to express that a lot of the "we should close it" discussion is not coming from people who don't like the show, but from people who adored the show.
I'm a hardcore Firefly fanboy. It'd mean a lot to me to keep it.
Why?
ETA: why would it mean a lot to you to keep the thread? It's a thread, not the show. Closing the thread shouldn't affect your love of the show.
I think, for me, and maybe some of the other new(er) folk, an explanation of is there a reason to close a thread? System resources? Some server cost? Excessive Stompie time to monitor and fix problems? If the thread was completely dead with nobody standing up to say "no!", I could understand the closing of a thread. But it seems there are a bunch of folk screaming NO!! and a handful of people saying "it doesn't matter to me, I guess it makes sense to close it".
I ask this, not to be a jerk in an attempt at keeping Firefly open, but out of ignorance of what it takes to run the place. I honestly have no clue what it takes.
It would mean a lot not because of any said status of my love of a show. I just don't think everybody's done with it yet. And as I said previously
C'mon, putting it elsewhere means it's just that much more scrolling through whitefonts about shows I dont' have time for in my "don't yet own a TIVO" existence
...or for ones I didn't know about or have time to watch at the time. If there's some sort of ritualistic buffista disclaimer of "I'm not calling anyone a bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro. We're all nice people but this is just how I feel" insert it here.
... "I'm not calling anyone a bun tyen-shung duh ee-dway-ro. ...
Ooo Big Duluth, MiracleMan would give you a plot point or two for that. Wait, we're not playing Serenity RPG here. Sorry.
eh. Truth be told, my main reason to close the thread is that I no longer use it. But I am loathe to close a thread if those who are using it currently want to keep it open, even if I don't really see the need.
