How much more is there to say?
Is B.org a closed community?
no.
It is open for any fan to join, right?
I am a late comer to Firefly, well after the show was canceled, actually, with the release of the movie. I know I'm not the last. I am of the group that LOVES this show, so my vote is obvious to keep a thread alive.
But what about new fans that join the ranks of B.org? Should they plow through a ton of posts on other stuff for the diamond in the rough of Firefly? It's nice to have a thread to say "OMG, I just saw Shindig and that dress is awesome" which could get someone else to link where they had one made, or some such. As a new user, the site has a TON of threads, and it's a little intimidating as to where to post, and if it's ok to post there (see my "Hi I'm new here" post in Sunnydale that was almost deemed Natter and deleted).
A Firefly thread is great. So what that it has a slow use. Does it cost extra? If your not a fan, don't subscribe. How many of us go to the home page and look at all the threads. I would venture to guess most of us have Message Center bookmarked. And how much of a joy is it to see pixels of a new fan, and reinvigorate the joy that is Firefly?
Tho I still consider myself new to this board. I would like to vote to keep a Firefly thread.
I want a dedicated place for Firefly discussion, especially since there are so many poeple here who don't like the show and don't want the discussion cropping up anywhere else. But I don't want a thread to sit there unused. I... don't know what I want.
I am Zenkitty. Torn, and thus useless. Firefly is what brought me to the Buffistas in the first place, but I've been here long enough to see the total non-use of the thread for long periods. So. Torn. And thus useless.
Well said, Omnis. It would be a shame if a passionate new fan of Firefly came in here looking to squee and left thinking we don't talk about Firefly anymore.

To be fair, though, this is not the only place on the Internets to talk about Firefly.
And, it's also not like the absence of a thread means it doesn't get discussed.
I am libkitty and omnis_audis. It's a bit crowded in my brain...

True, but, we aren't a bunch of fan-atics like some are, and we are the COOLEST of all the sites. Hate to shun a new cool-wanna-be just because a Firefly thread would take up one more line in the homepage.
Why not add Firefly to the Minearverse slug, to complement the mentions of Wonderfalls, the Inside, and Drive that are already there?
That makes sense to me.
Plus, I truly don't see the usefulness of continuing to have a dedicated thread for a long-cancelled show.* As someone said above (or in Bureaucracy, I dismember which), we're closing the Veronica Mars thread....at some point. As we did for Smallville when the traffic got too sparse.
*(At this point, someone will say, "But we have a thread for Buffy and Angel, and *they're* long-cancelled shows, so therefore you're not being consistent!" to which I would reply, having a Buffy/Angel thread is something that the board discussed and voted on and decided to keep because Buffy is what brought us together in the first place and made us a community.)
Honestly, I have no horse in this race, because I never use the thread. But I think what the majority of our current posters feels is right about a certain thread is should weigh more heavily than the possible influx of a few fans at some point, maybe, someday.
Hate to shun a new cool-wanna-be
Not having a dedicated Firefly thread isn't shunning a new cool-wanna-be; particuarly if Firefly were included in the header for the Minearverse thread (which only makes sense), it would still be findable.
