Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
To be fair, though, this is not the only place on the Internets to talk about Firefly.True, but, we aren't a bunch of fan-atics like some are, and we are the COOLEST of all the sites. Hate to shun a new cool-wanna-be just because a Firefly thread would take up one more line in the homepage.
Why not add Firefly to the Minearverse slug, to complement the mentions of Wonderfalls, the Inside, and Drive that are already there?
That makes sense to me.
Plus, I truly don't see the usefulness of continuing to have a dedicated thread for a long-cancelled show.* As someone said above (or in Bureaucracy, I dismember which), we're closing the Veronica Mars thread....at some point. As we did for Smallville when the traffic got too sparse.
*(At this point, someone will say, "But we have a thread for Buffy and Angel, and *they're* long-cancelled shows, so therefore you're not being consistent!" to which I would reply, having a Buffy/Angel thread is something that the board discussed and voted on and decided to keep because Buffy is what brought us together in the first place and made us a community.)
Honestly, I have no horse in this race, because I never use the thread. But I think what the majority of our current posters feels is right about a certain thread is should weigh more heavily than the possible influx of a few fans at some point, maybe, someday.

Not having a dedicated Firefly thread isn't shunning a new cool-wanna-be; particuarly if Firefly were included in the header for the Minearverse thread (which only makes sense), it would still be findable.
To be fair, though, this is not the only place on the Internets to talk about Firefly.
True. However, although I may be a tad biased, I think it's probably one of the sanest places on the internet to talk about Firefly. eta: Heh, xposty goodness!
And, it's also not like the absence of a thread means it doesn't get discussed.
True. But it can make it harder to find.
If a fervent Firefly fan stumbled upon us and needed to discuss Firefly and couldn't work out where...I don't know. Seems majorly unlikely, and not something to base a thread decision on. I mean, that's catering for the unspoken preference of someone who doesn't file it under sci-fi or a Tim work, and is looking to us to fill a fandom hole.
Bless--I loved the series, loved the movie, but I think that this putative newbie, well, they don't exist.
but I think that this putative newbie, well, they don't exist.
Well, they may or may not be important, but I think omnis just showed that they do exist (that is, that not long ago he was one of them). And, there are several non-newbies arguing for keeping the thread, so it's not just newbies vs. seasoned Buffistas.

No, what I mean is that making decisions on the part of newbies must be weighed against things like how prevalent they may be. Non-newbie reasons are separate.
Hmm. Why did I think that omnis came here by knowing people? ND, perhaps.
If someone came here to talk about Firefly, they're screwed because no one's talking about Firefly, not because the thread doesn't exist. Yes, they should have to slog through all the "rough" because that's where b.org exists, not in theory.
