We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

That's my take.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

And before we go ripping stuff apart to build a clone of something already done, we need to take another look at the community we'd be endangering.

Not getting this. I'm truly sorry you and others feel this way, but I don't understand how creating a new thread is destructive to the community. Or do you mean creating all individual show threads would be destructive? The only thing that I could see being destructive would be to shut down discussion of, for example, SPN. That isn't happening. The people pro-SPN thread aren't knocking the SPN people or talk. It's just that it feels like it could sustain its own thread. I don't think we should have individual threads for every show, but I think when one reaches a certain volume of posts, it's reasonable that it branch off.

Maybe reaching a consensus on what that volume limit is would be helpful for future discussions? That would take it out of any personal realm and base it solely on a pre-stated volume estimate. Thoughts?

ETA: Sorry, Beverly, I waited to hit post (someone was in the office) and now see that you meant all individual show threads.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I think Steph has nailed it.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I am trying to respond to the calls for dedicated threads for every show anybody's interested in talking about. That seems to be where this is headed, one show at a time.

I don't think that it is.

And I was addressing Connie's post.

I know that you were, but I thought it would be okay to respond to your thoughts even though they weren't addressed to me. I apologize.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

But since Boxed Set is a bucket thread, there are 2 groups being affected: (1) SPN watchers, and (2) other denizens of Boxed Set.

There are actually a couple other groups:

(3) People who watch SPN but do not use Boxed Set

(4) People who do not post in Boxed Set but might if SPN was spun off into its own thread.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

But since Boxed Set is a bucket thread, there are 2 groups being affected: (1) SPN watchers, and (2) other denizens of Boxed Set.

The SPN watchers feel like they're being kicked out and prevented from mediafannish discussion, while the other denizens of Boxed Set feel like the high volume of SPN posts makes it hard to discuss any other mediafannish shows.

But now the SPN watchers say they wouldn't feel welcome back in Boxed Set anyway, and the other Boxed Set denizens are saying "Hey, we like you; we're just trying to make mediafannish discussions easier for everyone!"

Is that about right?

Yes.

And at this point I just want it over, create an SPN thread, shake hands, smile, and get on with it.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

As the traveling saleswoman rep for media fandom, I feel I must comment about this bit:

I feel like I must have totally misunderstood the meaning of media fannishness and the function of Boxed Set all along,

We were in ur thread, bein all subtext-y with ur content. Last time this came around, I made poor Vonnie an example of how the two of us might make eyes at each other in the thread, and most of the thread would be "hey, I think it's dusty in here!" while a small percentage would say, "Yeah, dusty. I believe I will take that feather duster and... go be in my bunk."

In the interest of spreading the eyefuckery around, I swear my next example will involve JZ. And a feather duster, if she so chooses.

To sum up: I think it's fair to say that something is not working, because quite a few pair of panties have gotten uncomfortable. Agreement on what exactly is not working, and how all the panties may unwind, is a completely different issue from agreeing that something is not working.

No, I really did not intend to turn Light Bulbs into a porn thread when I got up this morning.

Actually, it occurs to me that there's probably a 5th group, who might provide some useful insight:

(5) People who watch SPN and use Boxed Set but who would like/be happy with a separate SPN thread.

That is, are there any SPN viewers who use Boxed Set but who DON'T feel like they're being shoved out and instead think that maybe an SPN thread could be a good thing?

I'd be interested in hearing from them.

I may possibly be over-reacting.

Of course it's okay, no need for apology, see over-reacting above. Also, see lack of lunch, above. Going to rectify that, right now.

Because books.

I didn't pay attention to the discussion of creating a Heroes thread, because I wasn't watching the show at the time, but it (and Lost, maybe) seems to be a different case than Veronica Mars was. As far as I can recall, there was no in-depth discussion about creating that thread (although I could be, and often am, wrong).

Would that be because VM talk was in Natter at the time? I'm thinking this is a definitely a use-of-Boxed Set issue, rather than a single-thread-for-every-show issue.
