Well, I ask because of the points ND brought up before in this discussion, and I want to accomodate his perspective because it stuck with me. I'll go either way and be happy with it, but it's noteworthy.

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
SA, I think the vote should have three parts so that people get a fairer say. Otherwise the vote could be more for NAFDA than either of the other two options, but the other two options (which are both for some sort of whitefont) would be more combined than NAFDA alone. Maybe something like below?
1.) Do you want the thread? yes no don't care
2.)If the answer to 1 is yes, do you want white font? yes no don't care
3.)If the answer to 3 is yes, how long to you want white font for? 24 hours 72 hours
Only, you know, worded prettier.
I don't like the idea that if you vote "No" on 1 you don't get a vote on the rest.
I see what you mean. Something like this:
B Proposal:
Part one:
Do you want a non-fiction thread, which would encompass the same shows as the Experimental Non-fiction thread, namely reality television (The Amazing Race, Survivor, Top Chef), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Mythbustes, Ghost Hunters)?
yes, no
Part two:
Do you want this thread to have whitefronted discussion?
yes, no
Part three:
If yes to to whitefront, how long?
24 hours, 72 hours
I don't like the idea that if you vote "No" on 1 you don't get a vote on the rest.
You would still get a vote on the rest whether you vote yes or no.
Can we have another whitefont option? 5am board time next day?
24 hours?
72 hours?
Someone above did mention having whitefont overnight, and that may not be a popular option, but it might be nice to have it in the mix.
12 hours?
I'd propose 24-hour whitefont for all threads. Not because it's needed in all threads, but "one rule for all" is the easiest to remember, and I can see the need for a 24-hour whitefontout for competition reality shows (even though I watch very little to none of the type).
(ETAdd, because even though the discussion started in Bureaucracy, it seems more appropriate here now:) I also checked Ticky Box because none of the others seemed to fit. My viewing habits also tend to be strange because most of the series that I watch are reruns of shows that were canceled many years ago.
Which raises a question: If we keep the network/cable drama split, which thread gets discussion of old network series that are now shown only on cable? (Example: Night Gallery, now showing on Chiller.)
Yes, SA. Something like that.
I don't like the idea that if you vote "No" on 1 you don't get a vote on the rest.
Yeah, what SA said. I meant result by answer, not dependent at all on what your personal answer is.
Also, just to be clear--we want this to be a non-fiction thread and not a reality show thread, yes? I think it's imporant to make the distinction here, because they very well could be two kinds of bucket threads, and I'm wondering whether people want two bucket threads--one for reality television, and one for other kinds of non-fiction such as Ghost Hunters, mythbusters, documentaries, news programs, NOVA, Mr Rogers, whatever.
Yeah, I did bring that up. I found that it could be difficult to get traction for discussion of the non-fiction stuff in the midst of the reality TV stuff. I'm pretty sure I was in the minority there though. I just really dig watching and discussing non-fic, but don't watch and am not really interested in almost all of the reality stuff, so when the topic switched to America's Next Top Aardvark I'd kinda check out.
