You're nice, and you're funny and you don't smoke, and okay, werewolf, but that's not all the time. I mean, three days out of the month, I'm not much fun to be around, either.

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Do you mean (highlight at your own risk) preferential voting ?

There's something that's been bothering me about this vote, and I just need to get it off my chest. I'm trying to think of a way to say it without offending anyone, and without coming off as selfish and obnoxious, but I don't know if that's going to happen. So before I say anything - I understand that this is a community that cannot and should not have to accomodate everyone. And I further understand that I am only one individual in the community, and I currently speak only for myself. Others are free to agree or disagree at will. So here it is:

In the "old" days there were two threads for spoiler seekers - heavy and lite - which seemed to match up pretty well with the three kinds of spoiler seekers we had - the total spoiler prudes (who stayed in the show threads), the lite spoiler flirts, and the hard core spoiler sluts. (Hereinafter Prudes, Flirts, and Sluts.)

Then the great crunch came. And the spoiler lite threads were closed out of necessity. And some of us Flirts whimpered a bit, but accepted the necessity. And life went on.

Now resources are less taxed, and it looks like a spoiler lite thread may come back. But we Flirts are being asked to consider sharing that thread - with some Sluts. Why? Because the Sluts, who already have a general spoiler thread, don't want to have to whitefont everything for folks who want to be Sluts sometimes and Prudes at other times. So the proposed spoiler lite thread is being asked to accomodate Flirts and Sometime Sluts.

Well I feel that's unfair. Why should the Flirts have to share with Sometime Sluts? If anyone should be accomodating Sometime Sluts (if they indeed need an accomodation) it should really be the Sluts. But I feel like we Flirts are looking selfish because we don't want to share our thread with any Sluts. And it's almost a fait accompli that the Sluts thread cannot be shared with the Sometime Sluts and I want to know why that's a given. Aren't the Flirts being asked to do the same thing that the Sluts don't want to do (meticulous labeling and/or whitefonting)?

Now the ballot as written seems to have a slant towards making the Slut thread no whitefont, and making some kind of accomodation in the Flirt thread, simply because the Slut thread is already in existence and the Flirt thread isn't. That's what's bothering me.

I apologize again if I'm sounding like a broken record, or beating the "me, me, me" drum way too much. But I needed to get this out, and now feel free to discuss or disregard as necessary.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Wolf,

Doesn't the ballot as posted allow for a Lite only thread? I specifically took into account those who do not want heavy spoilers in the Lite thread by stating "no hard spoilers allowed" in the Lite option. If this isn't what you want, let me know and I'll reword.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

If it makes you feel any better/less segregated, Wolfram, I feel like I never had a spoiler thread before, and that this feels like an exercise in recreating the past, so I still won't have one.

One of us will be surprised.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

from my perspective, I realize very clearly that whatever happens, it won't come close to pleasing everyone. however, I do think it is important that the kind of community that brought me into buffistas is retained. Some here have the whole forum as their playground, and my history here has been with the spoiler divas/divos. I've gotten years of pleasure discussing all kinds of crap in the spoiler arena and I'd like to come up with a solution so that will suit most of the regulars.

Right now, the thread does not have nearly the kind of traffic the Buffy/Angel thread did and I think that's a problem.

So I come to...what's the best for the group? I feel that something tangible will be lost if we continue as is in the current spoiler thread. Perhaps speaking only for myself, I think that thread allowed for participation of people who may not necessarily go to other threads on the site.

Can the same be said of other options? If so, I'd like to hear it.

But I think the above is why I'd like a no white font spoiler thread.

LeN, I appreciate you trying to accomodate. I guess I'm personally disturbed that there are two options for sharing Lite, and none for sharing the already existing spoiler thread.

ita, I think you fit into the category I called Sometime Slut. And like I said, I think you should be accomodated in the Slut thread. Or in your own thread. Also, other than you and Lisah, I haven't heard anyone else saying they need or want a Sometime Slut accomodation. And I know there are a lot more Lite Flirts in our midst, just from looking at the traditional Lite threads. So maybe we should poll how many folks are looking for this accomodation before a general vote on where best to put it.

And they say I should be accomodated in yours. I get that.

Or in your own thread.

I don't need room enough for that.

other than you and Lisah, I haven't heard anyone else saying they need or want a Sometime Slut accomodation

Gus mentioned it too.

But I'm not counting thread participators from this discussion. Judging by who's spoken up, there are only three or four spoiler flirts anyway.

That's what the vote is for. I'm very anti a poll. What purpose does it serve that a vote won't?

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Amended ballot:

Item 1: When Spoilers 3: First Mutant Enemy, Now the World was opened, it was done so, with the understanding that the white font rules for it, and its successors, would be decided later. Proposed--the rules should be as follows:

All hardcore spoilage, all the time. No white font.

(choose one)
____ Yes
____ No
____ No Preference

_________________________________________

Item 2: Proposed--We open a second spoiler thread, to accommodate those who EITHER want to discuss some spoilers, but not others, OR do not want to discuss hardcore spoilers. The focus and content of the second thread may or may not be decided with this vote, please indicate your support for a second spoiler thread:

____ Yes
____ No
____ No Preference

_________________________________________

Item 3: Proposed? If a second thread is created, the second spoiler thread should either be a Spoilers Lite thread or White font thread (see descriptions below):

(Choose ONE type)

a) Traditional Spoilers Lite Thread: Guest stars, episode titles, writers, and preview speculation in black font. Exiting cast, TV Guide and other entertainment articles and their discussion white-fonted. Hard core spoilers are not allowed.

b) All White Font+Good Labels: All actual content must be in white font. Each item in a post must be labeled (in black font) with show name, and spoiler type (e.g. ?Lost ? new guest star!?). Suggested spoiler types are: Plot Spoilers, Casting Spoilers, Ep Title, Writers, Preview Speculation, Articles. Hard core spoilers are allowed, but white fonted as with anything else.

c) Neither, I want another option or more discussion.

d) No Preference.

Cindy, in your proposed ballot there were two suggestions for sharing the Lite thread - whitefont/labeling and mixed bag. I notice that LeN took out the mixed bag suggestion, but there's still no suggestion to share the existing hard core spoiler thread other than a No vote on the No whitefont rule in Spoilers, which is a very slanted way of voting on that issue. I'd suggest a ballot that ran the idea of sharing a Lite thread against the idea of sharing the hard core spoiler thread. For example:

Item 1: Traditional Spoilers Lite Thread: A general thread to discuss spoilers that are considered Lite, i.e. casting, titles, TV guide and similar entertainment articles etc.

(choose one)
____ Yes
____ No
____ No Preference

Item 2: Proposed--We accommodate those who want to discuss some spoilers, but not others:

____ in a Spoiler Lite thread (if opened)
____ in the hard core Spoiler thread
____ in their own whitefont thread
____ in no thread
____ No Preference
