Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Is the current thought that Spoilers Light is for people who don't want to be spoiled too much about a show, or for people who don't want to be spoiled about too many shows?

I think the former: not too spoiled about a show.

Okay, I think there's two different camps with two different thoughts and needs from a general spoilers lite thread here, because I thought the idea was that the new spoilers lite would be for ita's latter description -- for people who don't want to be spoiled about too many shows.

We should clearly delineate what we're talking about, so that the two different camps are not arguing and getting confused over conflicting needs.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

So like have spoiler threads grouped by show(s)?

I'm not opposed to that, but how would that work?

Up with the sun

And because I'm just a little deeply resentful over the fact that the new spoilers thread I voted on was whitefont policy tbd and all of a sudden it was all whitefont all the time with no discussion that I can find anywhere.

Yeah, that kind of bugged me, too. My vision when I put it into the proposal was that the first posts in there would be "okay, what's our whitefont policy?," and we'd hash it out in-thread, as we are now. It seemed like the header set the policy, though I doubt DX meant for it to.

because I thought the idea was that the new spoilers lite would be for ita's latter description

I'm glad you clarified that. My usage of a spoilers-lite thread would be only one that keeps all spoilers lite. If folks want to create a spoilers-all-white-fonted thread so you could pick and choose which shows to get spoiled for, I might support that, but I wouldn't use it.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Can't it be both? Casting, writers, etc., fair game, TV Guide stuff whitefonted, but more hard core stuff linked. Won't that work for people with ita's needs? You won't be able to read it in thread, but know where to go to get it. Not perfect for discussion, but it's a start.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

I thought about saying "discuss the spoiler policy" in my first post, but I just figured you'd do it anyway, because that's what had been discussed. Also, Jen had beaten me to the first post in Lost, and I was in a hurry. Sorry.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Not perfect for discussion, but it's a start.

I don't see how it works for discussion at all, if I have to post it elsewhere and come back and link to it here, I might as well be talking somewhere else.

My suggestion for the lovely LeN would be to propose the variant types of spoiler "light" threads when it comes up to a vote.

FTR, I think individual show spoiler threads would be wronger than a wrong thing, although the most literal solution to the problem.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

My dream spoilers light thread would include writers, themes, links, speculation about tv guide and other entertainment magazine articles (whitefonted/linked at the users' discretion for spoilery articles), visiting stars and/or additions to the cast, but no hard core definite spoils. Just speculation with cream instead of 2%.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

And Deena's vision, to me, sounds like the dream show thread. I think in the last seasons of Buffy and Angel, we lost a lot of that kind of stuff from the main threads in favor of a big watch and post, followed by a dead thread for the rest of the week.

I'm not blaming the shift on Spoilers Light, incidentally -- in the same period, there was increasing show malaise, the huge growth of new venues like LJ, and don't you know that there's a war on. But I miss having show discussions that range a little wider than OMGWTF did you just see that?, and I'm not sure how it constitutes a spoiler thread at all.
