Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Closed threads. Get rid o' dem. It's 15 threads taking "click through" space on the board. They're not active. Archive them.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Dunno. If it wouldn't cause a problem, then one week or two seems fine. If it will cause a problem (for the board, not the slacker) then would someone (ita) have to manually unsub people before moving the thread off-site?

Ah, question answered. I say we go for it then. One week? Two?

I don't have any problem with relocating closed threads. And I've said I can live with cutting the Farscape thread (and any other non-ME-verse thread, although the fic thread would be painful), particularly if it can be shown that it would actually help the situation.

I'm not being difficult; but at this point it's unclear what particular actions we could take that would make an appreciable difference, given that, as I understand it, there's a problem with the code not closing connections.

No, we think [hope] that it's just a coding problem. But it may not be. If we had 180 users active at this board, it is entirely possible that the problem is just too many users, too many threads, too many posts.

I'm dead serious about ditching Natter. I doubt it will ever pass a vote, but that's what needs to go.

Losing the Farscape thread will have the net effect of a hamster fart in a hurricane. Loosing Natter or Bitches will make a difference.

Would it be a good idea then (and I generally hate this thought, but what the hell) to close the board to new memberships just until we get this figured out? It won't affect unregistered readers, but might at least forestall an influx of new posters when Angel comes back on or if there's a big FF announcement or something.

In which case I think we should consider voting people off.

Cause, dude, total good use of voting. Think of it as a daily recall election.

Or not.

If we want to eliminate bloat, then by all means lets toss Natter and Bitches. Cause those are the majorly high traffic resource hogs. With the death matches, quotables has been so much fun, but often filled with one liner posts. Or maybe we could have a yea or nay on all threads and only the most popular win.

But each of these has a much larger effect on the nature of the board then the cleanup we are doing.

So, it comes back to who are we? What do we want to be?

People can vote themselves into People's Forum, then, you know?

So, it comes back to who are we? What do we want to be?

We are a community with a smoldering house, and we want to be finding the fire extinguisher before we have to spend 40 years in the desert.

And here we are.

It goes hand in hand with the "toss Bitches and Natter" plan. I love it.

Now we're gettin' medieval on the problem.

It's a problem. Natter and Bitches are for many people where the community actually lives. The show threads are where the show discussion takes place, but a lot of us got to know each other in Natter.

I don't know what the response would be to a proposal to close those two threads. On the other hand, if it's a question of Natter or massive closure and consolidation of everything else not very directly show-related? Hmmm.
