Funny thing about black and white. You mix it together and you get gray. And it doesn't matter how much white you try and put back in, you're never gonna get anything but gray.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

It's not the number of threads, per se, it's the number of posts, right? So 2 threads with 10 posts per hour would use as much resorces as 1 thread with 20 posts per hour? So is there really much benefit to consolidating threads?

There is some evidence that threads are like counter space. No matter how much you have, it will all get covered with stuff. Whenever we've added a thread, traffic has increased. We don't know for sure that the converse is true, but it's worth trying.

Thrive to spite them

The Fanfiction Threads are:

Bitchy Fic: It Could be Plot Bunnies (a fanfiction workshop). This started out as BtVS/Angel fanfiction only, an offshoot when Spike's Bitches was really mostly about Spike. This is where the actual stories are posted.

Fanfiction:Writers, Readers, and Enablers (discussion) this is discussion of fanfiction in any fandom and trends in fandom things like this, also links to stories. But no actual fiction is posted here, it's just for talking about it, mostly non Buffista written any fandom fanficiton.

PPO (formerly Pansexual Prettyboy Orgy) this is the Smallville Fanfiction Thread. Smallville Fanfiction written by Buffistas is posted here, I'm not sure how active it is since I don't watch Smallville anymore.

Did I mention easily swayed? Of course it can. Maybe even "adorable fluffy bo-bita, who loves bunnies as cute little pets and not dinner."

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I could agree with their being a general HoYay Thread with Due South and all the shows that get discussed there (Due South, Highlander, Stargate) as well as Smallville, but I don't think Farscape really fits in.

That's been my sense in other times this idea has come up. And from what Sophia says, Smallville isn't really very active. So I think moving the Smallville talk into DueSouth would be very doable, and my hunch is it wouldn't affect the atmosphere much. I'd favor doing that and letting the Farscape folks keep their separate zone.

Eh...not necessarily. Let's say that there wasn't a movies or music thread. So I come online and I see that ita has finally caved to the ways of SDBs and Allyson is talking about how she took a bunch of acid and realized that she needed to have a Merchant Ivory marathon last night because she wanted to watch people drinking tea and Monique has come to the realization that Spike really is a fluffy bunny and so much better than Xander could ever be.

First, I check to make sure that hell hasn't actually frozen over. Then, I post in response because how could I possibly resist those setups? Now if everyone's posting in one thread, I'm going to compose one post in response to all three psychotic breaks. But if ita is posting in Music and Allyson is posting in Movies and Monique is posting in Buffy, I'm going to make three separate posts in response.

Basically, it's like thread sprawl. We, as a board, have become the Los Angeles Freeway System. Consolidation is like carpooling.

There may have been point in there somewhere. But maybe not. I think I got carried away with the imagery.

I love this image. I think that was more than the point. Or maybe it was "Consolidate now or be stuck for an hour on the 405?"

So the fewer threads, ultimately the better?

"Consolidate now or be stuck for an hour on the 405?"

It could be the anti-thread proliferation slogan.

But yes, fewer threads use less resources. I mean, if a dormant thread is truly dormant, it's not hurting us. I do think that sluggish threads, however, are hurting us because it would be better to have one thread getting 10 posts a day as opposed to two threads getting 5 posts a day.
