Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

It's not the number of threads, per se, it's the number of posts, right? So 2 threads with 10 posts per hour would use as much resorces as 1 thread with 20 posts per hour? So is there really much benefit to consolidating threads?

Eh...not necessarily. Let's say that there wasn't a movies or music thread. So I come online and I see that ita has finally caved to the ways of SDBs and Allyson is talking about how she took a bunch of acid and realized that she needed to have a Merchant Ivory marathon last night because she wanted to watch people drinking tea and Monique has come to the realization that Spike really is a fluffy bunny and so much better than Xander could ever be.

First, I check to make sure that hell hasn't actually frozen over. Then, I post in response because how could I possibly resist those setups? Now if everyone's posting in one thread, I'm going to compose one post in response to all three psychotic breaks. But if ita is posting in Music and Allyson is posting in Movies and Monique is posting in Buffy, I'm going to make three separate posts in response.

Basically, it's like thread sprawl. We, as a board, have become the Los Angeles Freeway System. Consolidation is like carpooling.

There may have been point in there somewhere. But maybe not. I think I got carried away with the imagery.

I love this image. I think that was more than the point. Or maybe it was "Consolidate now or be stuck for an hour on the 405?"

So the fewer threads, ultimately the better?

"Consolidate now or be stuck for an hour on the 405?"

It could be the anti-thread proliferation slogan.

But yes, fewer threads use less resources. I mean, if a dormant thread is truly dormant, it's not hurting us. I do think that sluggish threads, however, are hurting us because it would be better to have one thread getting 10 posts a day as opposed to two threads getting 5 posts a day.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I think the voting on this issue will likely be unanimous (well, except for one vote, maybe...)

Adorable fluffly bo-bIta who punches like Sarah Michelle Gellar.

And then she hunts us down one by one and kills us with her pinkie. SLOOOOOOOOWLY

Thanks for all the fish.

Fair enough, and an excellent explanation Kristen.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

And then she hunts us down one by one and kills us with her pinkie. SLOOOOOOOOWLY

So we're looking at an attrition-based strategy for reducing our resouce load? Works for me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Kristen's a very good explainer.

So she gets to live.

I guess that depends on the final proposal. But you bought some time.
