Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Don't forget casting spoiler rules -- I've already been spoiled here more than once for other shows -- one should be careful about that -- allowed? Whitefonted? What?
Interesting point, ita. Obviously, anything unaired is spoilery, and should be verbotten, but should summer casting rules apply?
(Generally, I'm a little curious about this, as it seems to me that genre shows like Buffy and Angel are the only ones for whom this is a big thing... I know there are occasionally exceptions, but it seems that spoilerness of cast changes is lessened to a certain extent in non-genre shows)
That was very smooth and polished, Raquel. You'll go far in politics...
Thankee Sean...but as I currently have pink hair, I'm guessing I won't.
ita, my proposal as stands is no whitefont, not casting, not plot, not which ads ran during the ep. Sounds like casting spoilers are a topic for discussion....
Well, if we're going no whitefont, it seems clear to me (though I am well aware that this might not apply to anyone else)...
If it's aired, free to talk about it. If it hasn't aired, it's spoilery, not acceptable to discuss.
ita's comment about the east coast and TiVo is well-taken, though...if it's aired on the East Coast feed but not on the West? Aired or not-yet-aired?

In all our Jossverse threads (as well as Smallville, come to think of it), it's been considered "aired," and West Coasters just have to hie themselves out or else get spoiled.
Hmm... This is something I've struggled with myself. I've frequently avoided show threads on show nights due to East Coast watch and post.
What seems more inconvenient for people? East Coasters not being able to discuss a show for three hours afterward, or West Coasters having to avoid a thread for three hours before.
Personally, I think the only way to make the thread work is to keep restrictions to the barest minimum, and peeps wandering into the thread do so at their own risk. Otherwise, I think we're just setting ourselves up for bizarre convolutions that will just drive us all crazy.
That definition works well on a show by show basis, Steph. But it should be considered that if I don't get The OC (or Queer Eye, or MI-5) until the second showing, I'm out of discussing all TV shows for, like, four days a week.
Or four hours, if I just need this one show to be watched by me before I can go in.
The problem is, in a general TV thread, there's no natural boundary at which it's safe to come back. For instance, on Tuesday night, you might be perfectly willing to read about Queer Eye at 11 PM because you don't watch it, but really frustrated about being spoiled for MI-5. And they both air at the same time.
In the Buffy/Angel threads, you knew you could come in after seeing the show, and everything you'd miss would be about just Buffy. In a general TV thread, you never know what people are talking about.
[x-post with ita, who said it better]

That means the only people who could ever watch and post would be West Coasters.
