You guys had a riot? On account of me? A real riot?

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

IIRC, however, there have been a couple cases where posters have been made uncomfortable by trolls who have found their addresses (email).

Welcome to the internet. Cold as that may be, sometimes I think we bend over a little too far to protect folks that should be able to protect themselves.

I don't see a difference between feeling blinding rage at your fellow netizen that causes you to step out for a bit and backchannel til your rage subsides, and feeling a momentary chill that some dickweed found your email addie and is calling you a douchebag so you step out for a little while and backchannel until your squickiness subsides.

I mean, the solution is, if you dont want crazy people infiltrating your brain from time to time, cancel the DSL or say c'est le vie.

If someone threatens physical harm, there are resources, and you could very well go to the technology thread and folks will explain ISP things to you so you can contact the service provider, or call the cops.

If you fear physical harm, the Buffistas can't help you, ya know? Well, maybe ita, but only if you happen to be living with her, and she's home, and the SciFi channel isn't on.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

There was some feeling a restricted thread would provide a better feeling of security for people who are more nervous about online threats.

Which is why it was brought up.

Also, I don't think the proposal is a good idea, because it would lead to a false sense of security, which is more dangerous (in my view) than having it in the open. Just stating the clarification.

I agree with this. But I don't think it does any harm, and may do some good, to talk it through.

And apparently I don't have an elsewhere to be today. Talky meat.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I don't know. I've been cyberstalked. It's terrifying, and I've been online for, as I've said before, about half my life. For me, it was a hell of a lot worse than my occasional fits of blinding rage.

Mind you, I'm in the odd position of being easily found using my real name; it's the reason I deleted any email accounts attached to it, and left my name off of anything that might be listed with my address. (Although I'm still findable, just less so.)

I understand completely about the name thing. I'm findable, too, but I tend to be more reticent online than most because of the name.

Ah, Beverly, I'm still seeing it as a discussion to accomodate people who are uncomfortable about reporting things in Bureaucracy, which is where we've already decided to go report problems. Now we need a separate place for folks who are afeared to report problems where the problem can read that they got a problem, or, we need that place to be inblisible to the problem person.

This is about fear of retribution.

I'm against this proposal, too. Broken down, it just seems like we're getting very Rube Goldberg about this.

Especially as we do have the E-mail Admins link. Which is handy and wonderful and good.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I'm very easily findable, too, although that is my fault for talking about specifically where I work and what I do (I'm sure I am the only 'wardrobe mistress' at my University, which I have mentioned by name a million times!)

I disagree with the proposal, but I think that this is a good discussion to be having-- clearning up admin responsibilities and talking about pricavy and threat issues.

I don't know. I've been cyberstalked.

Is that what we're talking about? We can't prevent that.

I think I'm very very confused and need to go back and re-read.

I'm against it too. But some people are less tough, or bloodyminded, or defiant than others, and if they need to talk it through, I say let them. It may help.

Yes-- however, this discussion has cleared up for me the usage of this link. i really though the choice was to complain in Bureacracy or don't bring it up.
