I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Much storm~ma!

Continuing failure to feed myself update - I decided to grab something out of the vending machine, took ages staring at the choices thinking nothing was really appealing but eventually picked a few things, could not figure out how to pay with my watch although I have done it before. Consoled myself with some yogurt covered raisins that had been made available as a "healthy snack". I am not very consoled. HOWEVER I am very confident that I will be able to pick up a pizza and probably way too much in the way of sides/appetizers on the way home and I can leave in about 20 minutes. Ooh, maybe I will actually sit down at the restaurant and have a glass of wine with my meal and have leftovers for tomorrow...

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Storm~ma to askye and everyone else in its path. I’m getting a bit of the far edge in my area, but that’s mostly just a bit of heavy rain.

Thrive to spite them

Ok so the storm has turned and doesn't look like it's going to strike Tallahassee dead on it's taken a turn for the east. Which doesn't mean the danger is over since Helene is so huge but it won't be the kind of hit that they were originally projecting for the area.

I haven't contacted Dad this morning..it's , 6:45 am too early to do that . But I know that Tallahassee didn't get a direct hit

It's been getting progressively windier here . I reported my absence on our app. I don't have to call anyone at work, not sure who is working this morning anyway. But the worst of the weather is supposed to be when I should be driving into work around 8:30 am and then die off around 11 am. It's pretty windy right now and we've had the power flicker a few times.

I could probably go in later but since I've been assured that my absence will be covered since it's a state of emergency I'm going to take the day to rest . Plus just because the wind and rain die down doesn't mean there won't be street lights out .

And we lost power again. I think this time it might stay off.

Our wings are not tired.

I haven't heard much from friends in the area, but in all likelihood power and cell phones are down. The lack of communication is nerve-wracking, but hopefully cell service can be restored soon.

Just heard from my friend closest to landfall. They evacuated but report no power and lots of trees down. As expected. She hopes the roads will be clear by Sunday but will listen to authorities before returning. (for those familiar with the area she is in Woodville, about halfway between Tallahassee and the coast)

Thrive to spite them

I heard from Dad...he lost power but no trees down at his place. I tried calling Mom after I hadn't heard from her but got a no service message so I guess she is without power and cell service or maybe just cell service.

Our power has not come back on. I read 1.3 million people on SC don't have power.

I'm mad at myself because I made a point to buy these xl body wipes for people who can't bathe so we could not take cold showers (when the hot water runs out) and I remember scanning them and bagging them and I swear I put them in my cart but I realized this morning they hadn't made it to my car.

I did remember the dry shampoo. I was tired and there was a line and this is why I hate grocery shopping after work I always forget something somewhere on the process.

There are limbs down all over, a neighbor's small tree came down in our yard. We have one power bank that I think is fully charged.

One of my Academy Trainers texted me with "Don't you dare go into work today it's too dangerous". I told her I'd already marked myself absent on the app. She said the morning Academy Trainer called out because a tree fell on her house (I don't have her number ). EL (the trainer I was talking to) told me she was totally freaked out and in the bathtub with the cat and her boyfriend in the bathroom.i don't know if they were all in the tub. So I texted her to distract her until her phone is as almost dead. She didn't have the weather channel app so I kept letting her know the hourly forecast and how I've been through similar.

I'm not going to try and go in at all. It's still really windy and I don't think anyone in town has power so I doubt the traffic lights are working. I occasionally hear a car go by.

It's hot and humid.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

Poor Tim woke up with Covid today. It's pretty mild so far -- no fever, but stuffy head and minor cough and aches. He's waiting to hear back from his doctor about Paxlovid. I tested negative, but I am genuinely still recovering from whatever I got in Colorado. At this point I'm just assuming it was the flu, because (1) it's lasted so long, and (2) it's only now, as I'm feeling less bad, that I'm realizing how absolutely fucking sick I was last week.

Basically, the healthiest creature in the house is Murderbiscuit, and he is a terrible nursemaid.

We have rain and super high winds from the edges of Helene, so we're charging everything chargeable. A lot of areas have lost power, but so far we still have it.
