I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Midlife crumbling body check-in: after vacation (we leave tomorrow morning), I need to schedule a mammogram, colonoscopy, and need to find a dermatologist to make sure my cave fish-white self stays skin cancer-free (in the meantime, I have SPF 1 billion for the beach). I'm posting that for accountability, so I make those appointments.

Despite the best efforts of Awesome Doctor to appeal to our insurance, they refuse to pay for weight-loss drugs (which seems very short-sighted of them, because they have access to my records; they can see my BMI). And my blood sugar is like 70, so he can't get it covered for pre-diabetes. The good news is, I'm fat but otherwise pretty damn healthy. I am, however, still on a mission to lose the Covid weight, so at the beginning of June I started tracking my food, which I haven't done in a long, long, long time. Since then, I've lost 10 pounds (which I honestly can't tell, because that really isn't that much on my frame), which I'm pretty happy with for 2 months. I took my measurements back in April when we bought Indian garb for our niece's Hindu wedding ceremony, and compared to my April measurements, I've lost 2.5 inches off my bust, 3 inches off my waist, and 2 inches off my hips. So I guess I'll keep tracking my food and my insurance can go jump in a lake.

(I am, however, not going to track my food very strictly on vacation. I have seafood to eat!)

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Boo on short-sighted insurance, but yay on the healthy direction that you're achieving in spite of it! Enjoy that vacation.

No vacation here, but I drove a group from our sister Assisted Living from Lexington to the Boston MFA (and back) to see a collection of gowns and jewelry. It was good that most of it was behind glass, because it was so luxurious that I would have been absent-mindedly running my hands over the material.

It was also interesting to me that the only dresses that I could absolutely have fitted properly were stage dresses for Donna Summer. She had a Real Body(tm).

Boo, indeed, on stupid insurance company. Yay on tracking + desired weight loss. I've been tracking mine for about a week now, and it's def making a difference. Imagine that! Anyway -- you have a tracking buddy now!

Just had a good catch-up dinner with a friend. Much needed. Then I bought more chocolate oat ice cream bars at TJs, because, yum and also, they are serving as a really tasty replacement for my addiction to Snicker's (Snickers' ?) Ice Cream Bars. Holy Hell, I love the shit out of those things. So, yeah, oat bar replacement it is.

I'm for sure going to see Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend. Can't wait.

Cereal:

Theo, I would have had the same compulsion. I often make people take off their rings and such so I can handle them (I mean, not random people; friends who know about my quirks).

I thought tracking would make me obsessive and control-freaky, but it's mostly just interesting to see the data. Like, I get a lot of fiber on a daily basis. A LOT. But I have to actively work to hit my protein goal (which is a pain in the ass).

JenP - Jul 26, 2024 8:17:15 pm PDT #1794 of 8457

Yeah, that's a large part of why I started -- to get my ratios right-ish among carbs, fats, and protein. My doc was like, "Do you eat enough protein?" And I said, "Well, I'm pretty sure, because if there's no protein in my meal, then I don't really think of it as a meal, so..." Turns out I was right.

The apps have gotten so fast and useful now, I don't get stuck/sucked in getting every little detail right, so it helps me not be obsessive.

Our wings are not tired.

Yeah, it seems to make a big difference with me too. Doing keto it is easy to have too much protein and not enough fat. Getting to 70% fat is a challenge, but macadamia nuts FTW. (90% of their calories from fat) I get so much protein from the collagen peptides I take for my deteriorating bones, and I drink a max protein ensure most days. I didn't eat meat for 35 years so I still am not in the habit of eating a lot of it. Just the peptides and ensure have me at 50 grams of protein. But now that I rejoined the carnivores I will down a cheeseburger from time to time.

I am pretty loose about the tracking, while DH is a freak even asking me if it was 6 or 8 cherry tomatoes in his salad. Weighs everything. Dude!

The keto ice cream bars are so super tasty! I wonder if I could make keto ice cream. Probably, I shall research.

I've been back on keto about a month. I miss my morning oatmeal with fruit and nuts, but a spinach feta omelet and bacon would comfort that loss.

The status is NOT quo.

Tracking is the only way I have ever successfully lost weight. Which apps do y'all use?

I did not take any decongestant last night and slept fine, breathing and feeling fine, but the Covid test is still strongly positive. Maybe not QUITE as strong but…ugh. I want to get back to normal life. Had to Amazon more Covid tests to myself. Which of course meant I had to throw in a few other goodies as well. Like you do.

Keto would not work for me. But I’m crossing my fingers I can stay anywhere near my current weight. But protein is hard! I’ve been not only using the high protein fairlife milk in my iced coffee but also adding in half a scoop of protein powder. Hoping that helps.
