Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.

The best gift my parents gave my sisters and I is choosing and arranging their own living situation so that we didn't have to make those decisions. They are now in their late 80s, and still in a house in the retirement community but assisted living and nursing and dementia care is part of the deal if they need it.
Truly, such a gift! It's only one parent, at least. My mom plans to come live with us (we will convert the garage into an 800 sq ft one bedroom apartment) when she needs more help. She doesn't have the money for any kind of long term care, but she won't have any assets by the time she moves out here, and (as I now understand) there's only a two year Medicaid clock when the assets go to moving into a new place. She will be eligible for some in-home Medicaid care when she needs it, and Medicaid will also pay for a nursing home if it gets to that point.
Anyway, Dad is having a good day today and has completely forgotten the fog of yesterday. It's great having him be himself, but it's so hard to get him to understand how confused he is when he's having a bad day. I'm grateful for him being him today, though. It really is a one day at a time situation. We meet with the Medicaid attorney in a couple of hours to make a plan and find out what he's eligible for. One. Day. At. A. Time. Thanks for listening, all.
WFH is not allowed, and they took away the 10 extra days of leave meant for people to quarantine in case of a COVID exposure/symptoms.
Holy crap, Sparky, that's terrible. Why is my military organization better on this than a university? Madness.
That is fucking crazy, Sparky. Good luck!
Sorry, Pix, that sounds really hard.
Pix, that does sound hard
Sparky- I work with non degree students. My university told me we had to be Covid vaccination compliant, but our UHS would not help, I needed to create my own system, which I did. Thursday all my students got an email that they were being deregisted because they were not university compliant. I found this out from my students. Because they are non degree students, they cannot log in to the university compliance system. I have already collected their vaccine status. I cannot upload it for them. My head wants to explode. But at least they are requiring vaccines. I also have a professor who will not vaccinate. We are a nursing school, so FML.
One. Day. At. A. Time.
I'm so sorry, Pix. It is a lot. Thankful for the good days when you can discuss options with him. I hope the attorney has some good suggestions. Sending much love. Know we are here for you if you need local support. I'm in NY until Octoberish, but Brendon will probably be back in FL in a week. He gets too bored at the lake!
"get used to accepting some risk"
Oh Sparky, that is a mess.
Didn't quite make it to Otter Lake yet. Had major trailer issues in FL and had to do a bunch of repairs involving DH changing tires and redoing 4 laches that had rusted out on the trailer. He was up and down and rolling around the ground in a Home Depot parking lot in Daytona Beach for about 4 hours. Between his brawn and my engineering, we got it all fixed up. Well, I also contributed words of encouragement! Only made it to Savannah the first day. Made it to Harrisburg last night but since I had to work this morning, we didn't want to get in at 3AM or something so I am doing my morning work in a hotel and will do the rest on the road later. Only about 5 hours from here.
Wide range of masking compliance along the coast south to north. From all to almost none. You know where I was in that range.
Pix that is really hard. I hope the doctor appointment is helpful on terms of getting a long term plan started.
Sparky that sucks.
Be safe traveling Laura!
So yesterday there was an after work dinner for A, my team lead/work friend who is moving. I both wanted to go and didn't want to because I had had a chance for a face to face goodbye but so many people to socialize with at once. However he was in the store and hiding out in the HR manager's office when and we managed a proper face to face good bye. He really did not want to go to this dinner. It wasn't his idea, he hates displays of emotion because it makes him emotional... and he said he was super anxious about it.
He gave his blessing not to be there and said he knows how I am. I told him I'd go for emotional support if he wanted but he insisted. This is a big reason why we get along so well. It's nice when someone gets your neurodivergence. He has ADHD too so he gets that part.
But now I have to go to work and people will ask why I wasn't there. I did have a headache ...well an intermittent stabbing pain in my eye...at the end of the night so that is my excuse .

That is sweet support.

That is way more toil than you want to start a trip!
Even though she had her outfit planned, and was up early, Matilda still had to run out the door in frantic anxiety to catch her Muni bus for the first day school.
But she made it.
Went to my local cafe this morning and they had the new SF Dept. of Health signs up indicating the mandate for Masks
and
Vax for going inside restaurants and stores. They didn't card me or anything (and I do have the QR code on my phone, plus my physical vaccination card), but it's good to see the mandate normalized.
We're in the shadow of the UCSF medical school with lots of doctors and med students here, so it's not going to be an issue in my neighborhood.
