Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Not sure if I said earlier but Gris that is both excellent and ducked up that your wife is flying to New Orleans to get a vaccine!! I mean yay that she can, but boo that she needs to? I hope you can get vaccinated soon too and that her trip goes smoothly!!
It is back to raining again here. I don’t mind so much, in the morning, it feels calmer. But mostly I’m just always happy once we are at >12 hours of sunlight so...yay!
Plus it’s Friday. Thank god. I have a crap ton of emails in my inbox about the parts of my job I like least, which I have been dealing with a ton lately, so that’s stupid.
But also yay fanfic writers being big shots!
Half my Twitter feed now is Jews in mourning, and the other half doesn't even know what happened.
I saw brief coverage of the stampede during the Lag Ba'omer commemoration on MSNBC, this morning. It's heartbreaking. I'm glad your cousins and Nilly are okay.
Hil, I'm so very sorry, and it's good to hear that your family and Nilly are safe.
Dad's home and wearing a heart monitor for 30 days; the doctors said "Whatever happened, it definitely wasn't a heart attack, but you had a quad bypass not THAT long ago, so you get to be Two-Phones Parker for a month". He said that he was vexed that they would not put the sirens on for his ambulance ride. I am very grateful that he was at a friend's when he collapsed, and that said friend was a retired police officer living next door to two paramedics, none of whom put up with Dad's "No, I'll be fine in a minute".
That was excellent timing there, dad of amyparker! Good to hear he is home.
I continue to hate iTunes. I thought matching up the "lost" songs with the iTunes player was going faster if I just played the song directly from the file, but when I refreshed everything it now shows THOUSANDS of duplicates in the iTunes player.
I already tried closing it and restarting.
Seriously BAD interface.
Anyway I am down to about 630 "lost" songs and they all seem to be on albums that at some point got filed into the Various Artists file.
Super exciting Friday evening here.
amyparker, that's all good to hear. Still sending happy heart ~ma.
So sorry about the stuff with iTunes. Moving the library file can be tricky. For folks that have to do this in the future, under File>Library>Organize Library there is an option for Consolidate Library. This is very helpful before you do a move, or to move things to a new location. You can move your media library location and then tell iTunes to consolidate and it will make copies of files in the new location and update the links correctly.
Timelies all!
So the second batch of meetings for Gary's work started.(It actually started earlier this week, but the stuff he has to talk about/keep an eye on started today) So this weekend's gonna be fun...
Dad's home
Yay!
...wasn't a heart attack....
Yay!
...collapsed....
Boo! But glad help was immediately at hand, and did the right thing for him.
Collapses are bad in general, but they are worse if they lead to "skeletal related events" (SREs). Men with metastatic prostate cancer don't recover well from SREs. [link]
So tell him, "No more of this collapsing nonsense! Don't fall down! Don't break anything!"
I've come close a couple times. Once in April 2020 when I had a fever as a side effect of a new medication. (Is it ironic that the shot was intended to treat my osteopenia and
strengthen
my bones?) And once just after Christmas 2020, when chemo caused a blood pressure drop.
Pre-emptive caution is in order. "Just say, 'No!'" doesn't really help when you are already falling down.
Yes on the endorsement of pre-emptive caution, alas, we usually don't get careful until we take a fall or two.
