I battle evil. But I don't really win. The bad keeps coming back and getting stronger. Like that kid in the story, the boy that stuck his finger in the duck.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Poking my head for a moment to update that, yes, we're still as OK as possible under the circumstances, here. Where I live may be one of the very few places left in Israel to not have alarms yet (we had a false not-really-alarm last evening, so we later referred to it as a "dress rehearsal" to see that we know what to do and that the kids know what to do and how to do it).

Very good to hear, Nilly. I think about you and Shir all the time these days, obviously. (And my co-workers over there, but mostly you two and your families.)

I spent part of tonight with the tiniest almost octogenarian Jewish woman I know (she's a close friend of one of my oldest friend's mom, and has therefore been part of my life on the edges for three decades or so, and when I say tiny, I mean she's 4'8" and a bit), which was wonderful because she's just an amazing human. Her sister (and her sister's children and grandchildren) are all in Israel, and are all also safe for now. I am very tired of seeing my fellow gentiles in my social spaces skipping over the whole part where their Jewish friends, even those not in Israel, are having a damn rough time right now. It's like they skipped straight past the horror of the attacks to "must reiterate our support for Palestinian people" stage. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, do not even bother with "May their memories be a blessing".

It makes me so mad and so sad.

My stupid, anodyne "this sucks, antisemitism always jumps in times like this, please look out for your Jewish friends and speak up" messages shouldn't be getting me backchannel thank yous from Jewish friends, damn it. AND YET.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Thinking of Shir and Nilly and everyone caught in such a devastating situation.

I’m laying down. I think I beat back the horrible migraine, but I’m afraid if I move, it will return. Better to wait until TCG gets home for lunch.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Thanks so much for checking in when you can, Nilly. Makes me feel a little better/more hopeful about the people I’m not hearing from (who I haven’t talked to in years, it would be totally unreasonable to expect them to let me know they are ok now, but I worry)

Blood pressure is down in the normal range and COVID booster has been got. Taking advantage of having put OOO time on the calendar this morning to go out to breakfast

Physical health win!

I am now down one upper molar -- apparently it had 2 fractured roots and it was loose enough that the dentist had no trouble extracting it. I got a bone graft (#TeamZombie) and have to wait about 5 months before I can get the implant (#TeamCyborg). I'd kind of like a nap, but I think I'll just get to work (#TeamPaycheck).

You play on a lot of teams, Tep. *\o/*

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I'm grateful to have all my adult teeth, except the wisdom teeth. Those came out just fine, but there wasn't room for them, so they had to go.

Leftover potato-cheddar-broccoli soup for lunch, with a drop biscuit smooshed up into tiny pieces, so it was like soup with dumplings. Tasty!

Our wings are not tired

Take a lesson from me. Don't slice the tip of your thumb to the point of needing five stitches while making dinner.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Dammit! There goes my evening plans.

Yikes! And thumbs are so awkward to work around when they are injured. I'm sorry, Noise.
