It's simple. I slap 'em around a bit, torture 'em, make their lives hell...Sure, the nice guys'll run away, but every now and then you'll find a prince like Spike who gets off on it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I want to plan it so we arrive on Sunday or Monday and stay somewhere else for a few days first. Recommendations? Good pool lounging if possible and general accessibility to things. And we’ll probably plan a Grand Canyon trip or something like that on Tuesday.

I always stay in a VRBO, for maximum pool lounging and reasonable accessibility to things, especially with a group larger than 2. It usually works out great. And I took a smaller group tour to the Grand Canyon, which was great for me -- it is far, so tough for a day trip, but I wasn't trying to hike or anything. We also stopped at the Hoover Dam and the town that the Disney movie Cars is based on (??).

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

No recs, but officially considering if I have anywhere better to be that week...[checks calendar, ooh, a week after the eclipse! Hm]

Apparently if you're enough of a power nerd, there is nothing that cannot be flowcharted.

I pulled a muscle doing yoga. I feel like that shouldn't be allowed to happen. I should get bendier, not ouchier.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I should get bendier, not ouchier.

I've come to think of my connective tissue - ligaments, tendons, cartilage - as being like old rubber bands which are desiccated and snap under pressure instead of stretching.

Your mother being a Yoga Freak has given you some unreasonable expectations.

She really is unreasonably bendy. (Good band name? One night only: Unreasonably Bendy!)

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Oh no, meara! Wishing hard for better than expected results.

So glad for the hopeful news for JZ!

We recently had a fire pit installed and acquired good-quality outdoor furniture, so my main ambition for this three-day weekend is s'mores.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

That sucks, meara. I hope the scan results have better news.

It’s good to hear that JZ’s scans look promising. More of that, please, universe.

We’re having an unusual cold snap here mixed with possibly 72 hours of drizzly rain over Memorial Day weekend. I managed to take care of all my external activities yesterday, so I can spend my time on a sofa, under cats, reading some new books. With the occasional bit of cooking and housework to keep my joints from fusing solid. It’s pretty much a perfect weekend.

and acquired good-quality outdoor furniture

We're in the market for new outdoor furniture after the winter storms capriciously lifted our glass topped table by the umbrella and smashed it down to the ground with a good littering of broken glass everywhere.

I think we're leaning towards the Papasan we've enjoyed at the hotel.

so I can spend my time on a sofa, under cats, reading some new books

You have optimized your weekend plans!

It's a gray day in LA but the sun should come out in the afternoon. We've already scuttled off to the French bakery and are back in our room with treats.

Our plan for the day is leisurely walk to dog park, peruse at the Friends of the Library. Back for a nap for JZ and then some poolside lounging and reading.

That exact thing happened to me last year!

That sounds like an excellent day!

Mom had her CT scan this morning, and the plan is she’ll call me when the docs come to discuss. But who knows when that’ll be—probably in a few hours when it’s halftime at the soccer game I’m going to and I can’t find a quiet space. But if I stay home they won’t call til after the game I’m sure. Fingers crossed the news is not horrific.
