I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

My mom has been working on our genealogy for a long time and has been telling me bits and pieces as she goes which is really the only reason I know anything at all about anyone I didn't actually meet. I keep thinking I should get her to show me all her research or results or whatever because it's interesting but we haven't gotten around to it. My dad's side of the family is much more piecemeal - I'm not sure, for example, exactly how I'm related to everyone who is called Uncle Somebody - they might be my dad's uncles or older cousins or friends of the family or great uncles, who knows?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

We have done genealogy on the fanciest branch of my family (the Cartiers), but not the regular ones!

I have a guy on my dads side of the family (…first cousin once removed? Second cousin once removed? Guy who is related to two sides of the family but only sorta because my grandmother’s parents died when she was an adult but still had kid siblings and they got taken in by a family who had kids and one of them married my grandpas brother? I think?) anyway he did it for one side.

My moms moms side, my greats came over from Denmark, and I found them but didn’t go farther. Her dads side my grandpa was named something extremely common and generic, as was his dad, and they lived in Chicago. I THINK I found them on the census but…oh well.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I got a scanner for Christmas and scanned some older photos for the family Nixplay photo players. That's a system where people have frames that show a series of photos from shared google photo folders. It's pretty neat. So we all see [adorable 4 year old] [adorable 1.5 year old] [adorable 1 year old] [grim-looking Victorian era great grandmother] [adorable pet]. No one has told me to stop yet, so I'm assuming the grand tapestry of life is OK by them.

Thrive to spite them

I was feeling not great but I got up and dragged myself to work. Not because I don't have PTO to cover (I have plenty!) but calling out sick is an unexcused absence/occurrence and 3 of those means you will get written up (unless it's special circumstances) and I don't want to play with fate. So I get to work and try to clock in and it won't let me --because I was scheduled this afternoon. After finding the HR lead and my team lead we figured out I could just clock in and work. So that was good.

Sheryl I know this is all really hard but I hope that the residential program works well for Mr. S.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Mr. S had a major meltdown last night and ended up strewing potato chips all over the place.(I think it was started by him losing a game of Pokemon)

We have a bunch of forms to fill out for the program.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I did an ancestry.com DNA test a couple years back, so I've traced my genealogy a bit via their site. As far as lack of forks in the family tree, I discovered that my paternal grandparents were third cousins, but also that I myself have a TON of third cousins out there whose existence I never suspected and can easily imagine a world in which I met and dated one of them with no clue of any kinship unless their genealogy researcher cousin happened to compare notes with mine.

I also found a first cousin marriage way back in the late 17th or early 18th century, but that was the Puritan New England branch of the my mother's family that I hadn't even known existed, so take that, every joke I've ever heard made about inbred Southerners.

Thrive to spite them

I send my pay slips to the lawyer so they can send them to worker comp so I can get paid for the time I didn't work. And nothing has happened since my Dec 6th appointment and I didn't receive a check from workers comp for last paycheck so I told the lawyer and asked what was up with everything.

Turns out the claim adjuster doesn't work there anymore so the check fell through the cracks with the turn over and the neuro opthomlogist's info wasn't clear about a new eye glass prescription being related to my injury. Turns out that my right lens was the wrong prescription and the only thing he paid attention to was that my double vision has changed. So I need new prisms but that's it . Th3 lawyer said it looks doubtful that workers comp will cover a new prescription. It's really frustrating because I didn't have issues until after the concussion amd some problems I explained happened even without my glasses. But it looks like I'll lose that.

The Dr's note is also lost and the new claims adjuster I guess is working on me getging a new neurologist. So it's frustrating. And mostly going no where.

But if they aren't going to cover the glasses I want to know so I can go ahead and get new ones and see better.

Thrive to spite them

I played around with Ancestry website and there is one ancestor where the trial just stops. I think it's my paternal grandfather's grandfather . But on the only records that can be found his first and last name are the same. The documents that can be found are with the double name and there aren't many of them. Every family tree I could find with this man on it just stops there.

And my grandfather never really knew his father because my great grandmother divorced him (or he divorced her but there was a divorce) and never spoke about him again. To the point where my grandfather didn't know how to spell his own last name and didn't ask when he started school so he just guessed the spelling. ( My great grandmother had either remarried at this point and been widowed or was remarried and her husband was alive or she had gone back to using her maiden name I'm not sure which one was the case that no mail came to them with our last name on it).

And then there is the ancestor whoo may have married his aunt, his mother (half?) sister

This is on mom's side. What I could find is this guy who is married to a woman who has the same parents as his mother. Excpet when I went digging around Ancestry there were some family trees that showed this. Some that showed his wife's name with no parents listed and didn't have a sibling listed for his mother with his wife's name . Some had no sisterslisted for his wife but showed his mother having the youngest childi with the same name and either the same or almost the same birth year. The math added up for the possible aunt-wife to be his mothers sister. They were 20 years apart in age and the entries that listed an age for the dude and his wife showed she was older than him (even when they didn't show a relationship between his wife and his mother ).

So that makes me wonder if it's just some weird mix up that someone did on Ancestry that got added around or what was going on but I don't think I'll ever know. I do know that people get records wrong. I had seen a couple people who had Grandma E's name, birth date, parents etc saying she died in the 90s and had a different picture and maybe a different husband. I did contact 2 people about it and one had gotten the info from the other, she thanked me and corrected it. The other person never contacted me.
