I did not have popcorn, so I went to Trader Joe’s and bought fancy potato chips and some sort of Indian snack mix, and also fried plantain chips. Mostly because I remembered I need coffee, which motivated me to go there. TBD if I will actually eat dinner though.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I snacked.

We have an Aldi's here now. Opened a couple of days ago. Not a Trader Joe's but also not an hour away. Still useful to me apart from where I have no faith in their wine and beer yet. But I likely used to get that feeling at TJ's too.

The latter half of July was a mostly fun road trip with Boy and Shelby. We spent time with family at Lake Tahoe and she traveled well. The Boy and I already know we travel well.

This was a huge spending a lot of time together with one side of the family that he knows and then meeting masses of the other side of family at the 50th anniversary of my uncle's anniversary of his ordination which is quite something when you aren't Catholic. I mean, I'm not either but I do the cross my arms 'not a vampire, I promise' get a blessing at mass and later talked to my favorite priests at the dinner many of whom I have not seen since the last party for his 25th and they could drink me under the table.

Shelby drank something sketchy (she's the sketchiest water fan, but no more) and we've been home caring for pancreatitis since we got home ten days ago. Today she finally ate dog food that she can eat for the rest of her life. She was so close to being hospitalized at the ER because she wouldn't eat at all and then would only eat bone broth and boiled chicken with SQ fluid supplementing her.

I've been a wreck. Pancreatitis is the scariest diagnosis she could have gotten. But I think we turned a corner. And thank god for pet insurance or this would be a different post most likely.

Especially as I know pancreatitis as a fatty foods issue. Which is can be. Shelby was triggered by toxicity. But her recovery and the rest of her life? Low fat. Because pancreatitis can come back.

Our wings are not tired.

How scary, poor Shelby (and you!). I wouldn't wish pancreatitis on anyone. I'm so glad she recovered. If anything like mine she won't learn any lesson and will drink something sketchy again if given the opportunity. Other than that the road trips sound delightful. Priests and nuns that I have encountered up here in the Adirondacks are a mixed bunch. My neighbor's sister is a sister and she and her sisters come up and waterski and ride bikes and such, which after going to Catholic school was a trip. The parish priest has 2 churches because of the remote location and rode a snowmobile between them in the winter because it was faster than driving. The tight laced ones never last more than a season when they apparently begged for reassignment.

Last day of Paxlovid for me, and 2nd day for DH. My construction workers have disappeared since he told them I was sick, even before I tested positive! Once they heard I had a fever they split. They Work Outside and I am inside! I get the paranoia, I really do, but still annoyed. God only knows when they will come back, and they only live 2 houses away. Meanwhile all their tools and supplies and work in progress sits all around the perimeter of the house. Today it is raining and I am not even sure if their stuff is getting wet, but I am not inclined to go out and move anything. See me shaking my head and dealing with something else that I have control over.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I've been trying to come up with "low fat treats dogs love" and I'm afraid all I've come up with is:
Cat poop
And I'm not 100% sure it actually is.

{{{Cass}}} Poor pup and poor y'all, that sounds really scary!

In petty annoyance news: I am working in the office today and forgot to bring my computer glasses. Oops. Perhaps more frequent breaks from the screen will help with that...

Coincidentally, my DH is suffering through a bout of pancreatitis at the moment. I had a bout of it once and know the pain. It sucks.

He's under doctors' care and making an appointment with a specialist, but it's such a bitch of a malady.

I remember when ND was in the hospital and how really deadly serious it got whenever DH's flares up. I finally remembered to tell him that to explain my intense obsession with doing whatever we can to sort this thing out.

We were in the ER last night, though they ended up sending us home (which was the right call), but holy hell am I tired today.

One meeting in a couple.of minutes, and then nap time. I should shower first, but I probably won't.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The contractor is here and the agenda for today he told me is "demolition" and I can hear it already.

It's just going to be like that for the next couple weeks. Oy.

(Our decorative balcony doesn't drain properly and it has caused dry rot in the garage door frame so the balcony needs to be fixed with new drainage and the garage door frame ripped out and replaced.)

At this point it feels like 90% of all home maintenance is dealing with water that got where it wasn't supposed to be.

Fortunately, unlike the window restoration, this project should stick pretty close to its timetable, as our contractor has blocked out the calendar and there's nothing fancy or exotic needed in the supplies.

Also, we're awaiting a visit from the Geek Squad to put in a new motherboard on our new but not working TV.

Blah blah house maintenance blah.

Yikes! Poor puppies and humans.

My friend had to have her gallbladder out after pancreatitis and now she can't have the fatty foods.

That sounds right.
