Reavers ain't men. Or they forgot how to be. Now they're just nothing. They got out to the edge of the galaxy, to that place of nothing, and that's what they became.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But I managed to think I had lost my car keys while in the coffee shop - when I found them they were (brace yourself) IN MY POCKET so I do feel very stupid now.

You found 'em! That's not stupid. Plus you scouted out a new coffee place and you're getting on your bicycle, so...you're killing it.

You know that thing where you're juggling umpty jillion responsibilities and even if everything went smoothly, it would be difficult but nothing every really goes smoothly? That's the kind of daily snag we're hitting in the move.

The window guys are finally back to put in our restored windows (after about 6 weeks) but they have to paint them first. However, the paint they left in the garage (more than a month ago) is now gone. So they're sitting around smoking waiting for JZ to make a run to the hardware store and buy two more gallons of paint.

I really felt the Oppression of the Snags when Emmett and I were disassembling the solid oak table in our apartment so we could move it to the new house. First we discovered that the four bolts that needed to be removed required a special Allen Wrench set. So we made that hardware store run. Came back, found the right size, removed the first two readily, and got to the third one and it was stripped and it wouldn't come out! Gah! We finessed it anyway, and Emmett showed me the trick of stuffing the hole with foil so the wrench can still turn the bolt.

But the Path of True Moving ne'er ran smoothly. Snags galore, at every turn.

We're officially in the week of In Between where neither home is comfortable anymore.

But the Floor Guys should finish up the kitchen floor in the old apartment, and by the end of the week we'll rent a UHaul van and switch the last stuff to the new house, and move E&K into the apartment.

Just in time for Jon B. to be our first guest in the Garden Apartment.

Matilda started her summer job with SF Parks & Rec. She had been quite bummed that she had been assigned to a tennis camp instead of a softball camp. However, after the first day it turns out that it's only partially tennis, with arts and crafts, and weekly field trips, and weekly pool trips. So that's way way better.

Thanks!

So excited for you guys be ensconced in your new place. Amazing. And it's so lovely!

Glad Matilda gets more than just tennis... gotta say, I'd be happy about that, too, no offense to tennis.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

It's Wedding Eve for us. I took the day off for last minute stuff today, but we are shockingly well prepared. So it's pretty much just a day off. I'll take it!

I legitimately bounced in my seat when I read this! Happy Wedding Eve!

Our wings are not tired.

Happy Wedding Eve! I love the non-stressy way you are doing it.

I'm in ugh mode on renovations. Windows aren't generally available in the size and shape I want and are taking a lot more effort to purchase than desired.

Other than that a productive day. Went to the gym again at 6:30 this morning with my sister. It's an unattended gym with 24 hour access via fobs so we were looking at the logs to see when a slump time might be. Sunday we were alone, and we shared with 2 other people today and yesterday so not a big deal, but when people arrive for summer that could change.

Took the dog to the vet and got gold stars all round. Did I ever tell you that one of the vets here played Charlie in the Willy Wonka movie in 1971 when he was 12? Anyway, we didn't see him today because he mostly does the horses and cows, but locals are glad that he chose animals over movie stardom.

Next door to the vet is a guy who does tattoos and has chickens so I picked up some eggs from his self-service little fridge out front of his place. Also left my empty egg cartons that I save for him to reuse.

Change of pace from the multi-million people metropolis of Broward County to Otter Lake where the census tells me has a population of 109. Both have advantages and disadvantages. eta: I checked to see what the population was for the big village where we go to the gym, and it is 606! It is a tourist town though so lots of seasonal people like me that don't get counted.

Wow! I knew that the actor went on to become a vet, but didn't know that he was your vet! (Or would be if you had horses and cows.) Cool!

I'm in ugh mode on renovations.

We have to find a contractor to renovate our bathroom, and while that's being done, Tim wants to get the plumber in to do some fixes/possible re-pipe work, and all I can think of is Buffy yelling "No more full copper re-pipe!" But I will be thrilled to have our weird little bathroom renovated into something more useful and less bathtub-y (the bathroom is very very small, and the cast-iron pedestal tub takes up A LOT of real estate; we only ever shower, so we need to get rid of the tub entirely in favor of a nice roomy shower enclosure with a seat, given that we are getting old and sometimes body parts stop working properly [and, Tim pointed out, sometimes you're just tired and want to sit down while you wash your Rapunzel hair]).

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Happy wedding eve!

Sending healing and coping and safety and self-care ~ma to Sheryl and Gary and Mr. S.

Ugh, Tom, I'm so sorry. Careful, distanced hugs.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Did I ever tell you that one of the vets here played Charlie in the Willy Wonka movie in 1971 when he was 12?

Oh wow!

Hope you don't feel too bad, Tom.

Happy wedding eve, Jen!!!
