I saw a report from the truckers in Canada. Seemingly, they're threatening to create a "convoy" and come to block the DC Beltway. Which, if you know about traffic in the entire area is kind of redundant.
Also, from a Toronto person:
"Got to admit they put some work into that giant sheep on a flatbed. What are they going to do with it once they're done though? I'm picturing some sort of Wicker Man deal."

So, you announce your plans to the world BEFORE you cross the border into the US? When all of your license plate numbers have by this point been collected? Good job.
Hec, if you get a sort of vintage style floor, you MUST get a Hoosier Cabinet (this is how to build your own, but there are any number for sale).
JZ was busy at the Community Thrift yesterday looking at old furniture and bought a few pieces already. I've given her the thumbs up to go antiquing with her mom in Reno and Sacramento too.
And let me know - is Matilda claiming one of the turret rooms? they look to be something I'd have gone for when I was a teen.
The turret isn't actually a space you can get into. It's an open column over the round window in the living room. So it basically funnels light down into that room from a window in the top. And since the living room window is curved (and West Facing) it also catches light from all angles, which is why the room is warm and welcoming.
The attic space though is built out, and you access that through an outside staircase to get up there. There's a bedroom there, and a larger room which will be converted into our library/reading space. Matilda won't be taking that room - since there's no bathroom up there. But the current owner notes that they've often used it for guests since it's private and isolated from the rest of the flat. Her bedroom will be right next to ours.
However, we also have the two bedroom garden unit. The current owner had been using it as an Air BnB, but we'll be using it as a separate space for working from home, and to put up guests, and when we don't have guests Matilda and her friends can use it as a Rec Room. It's two bedrooms with a bath and kitchen and a living room.
Emmett and his girlfriend Kalena and his best friend Joey will be using it in March & April & May.
We'll keep our current (rent controlled for 35 years) apartment and try to slide Emmett, Kalena and Joey over here into our old apartment when we move into the new house. We'll see how that goes over with my Landlady!
Hec, I approve of the floor idea, but then I would. (People who have only known me in this condo would be very confused.) And yes, buy the machine - their appliances are generally well built, and the giggle-inducing name is a bonus.
- whistles "Sumer Is Icumin In" (but quietly, as Jim's in a meeting)*

"Would you like some coffee from the Smeg?"
"Smeg yeah!"
I want some smeg small appliances, but they're so pricey.

Not gonna lie, that is disappointing. The light is very nice, though. I so love the idea of Emmett and co in your current apartment! It's also nice that the current tenants at the new place get to stay.

I suppose we could build a scaffold inside the living room so you could get up into the turret.
