Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Back from the con, and tired.

Gary took Mr. S trick or treating while I watched the candy supply(we put pieces of candy on a tray table and put that outside). At 8:30 I brought in the table and the last few pieces of candy and called it a night.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Ima sum up:

Go Team Lexapro!

ADHD diagnosis can be good! I haven't gone the medication route, but at least I know why my brain works the way it does.

I think Roller Derby was my midlife crisis--which it did AMAZING things for me, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I wish I had found the library sooner. My sister asked me if I wanted to go back and get my MLS and I was like "HELL, NO!" too spendy, and I am already doing the fun part of my job. I'll leave the librariany stuff to my boss.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

One of the houses Aeryn and I trick-or-treated at last night had candy scattered all over the lawn, with signs on the grass saying things like Take Two! No, Not That One! and I wish I'd been able to get a picture but there was never a moment when there weren't other peoples' kids in the frame. She got a good haul though, and we ran into a few friends along the way, which was nice.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Everything still down at work, they're saying it's a "cybersecurity attack" which does not seem like the right nomenclature to me but I guess I know what they mean. We had a downer of a meeting to start the day with everyone knowing the current status and then my boss ends it with "everyone have a great day!" which seemed very weird and out of place.

Our wings are not tired.

Eeep. I hope they can get things restored without a bunch of loss of data. Are you able to do much of anything?

Here is so much a Monday. Sigh.

DH took on a coaching job as head coach of the JV high school team and assistant of varsity. He was going to skip a year, but I knew that wasn't happening. He went down just to meet the team and talk with the coach, and just loved the kids. Then his first day of practice the school principal came in and told him (in front of the kids) how happy he was to have him back. The school is in Pompano Beach, about 40 min south of us, where we lived for a time. This is where we plan to move when we sell the house. Of course for now a commute! For reasons that I can only assume is complete insanity the coaches and boys decided to have practice at 6AM several days a week so they have their evenings free for other after school activities or study. So DH was up at 4AM to shower and get ready to roll. This is his least favorite week as he has official tryouts and has to pick way too few kids compared to how many great players he has as options. Saying no is very difficult for him.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yikes, -t. That sounds like trouble. But hopefully not your trouble.

I am in my office for the first time since March 13, 2020, and it is weird! I also got a new office, so that's really all I've done so far today, including going through the paper files of someone who is no longer on my team and is also on maternity leave, and throwing most of them out.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

This is the week of our annual conference and I'm the only one actually in the office, which means that I'm getting the calls from people who have issues ... and I have no answers for them. I can only advise that they contact the people who do have the answers by email ... which isn't what they want to hear. Also, someone's handing out our main phone number as the number for a hotel, so I'm also fielding calls from people who want rooms, food, other hotel services ... and want me to transfer them to the hotel line that would handle it. That's not happening, needless to say.

In other news, has anyone else heard about the proposed dorm for UCSB? it was sort of designed by a billionaire who's kind of an amateur architect. It's supposed to house something like 4,500 students in an 11-story building. They'd be in tiny cubicles with no windows; the design's supposed to encourage them to spend more time in the communal areas. Also - two bathrooms for each "suite" of eight cubes. Here's a video about it. I suspect it can't be built as currently designed - the huge building has two entrance/exit doorways ... which has to violate fire codes every which way.

Are you able to do much of anything?

Nope! Even the things I was planning on doing today, my customer cut off my access to their site so I can't (presumably because our company is a security risk although the horses have been in and out of the barn all last week, shutting the door now seems silly)

But hopefully not your trouble.

Fingers crossed! It just occurred to me this morning that it would be not out of character for mgmt to decide this requires layoffs, hopefully that is just me being super pessimistic

Ooh, clearing out paper files sounds kinda nice! That's something I could do today if I was in the office, but we have been asked to not go into the office because it doesn't have wifi...

Ugh, Toddson, that doesn't sound fun at all (your fielding all those phone calls, I mean, although the horrible building also doesn't sound fun)

Surely you can just transfer the call? No?? (Sorry!)

The UCSB thing is funny to me because I have a former coworker who really wanted that guy to give for housing at our institution. Good thing he didn't!

Bullet dodged, Jesse! The UCSB thing is funny to me because my sister went there for a year and she hated her dorm so much for being already on the road to where that building seems to end up
