I helped a friend cleaning out her mother's home (her childhood home) today. We had moved the mom to a retirement apartment a few miles away a few months ago. My friend is moving back into the house in June and will live there at least a year as she decides what to do as an empty-nester.

SO. MUCH. STUFF.

We took 6 bags to thrift. A full truck bed to the dump. And a full wheeled recycling container plus two bags to recycling. We were putting things on the curb we didn't think were worth keeping for a garage sale and were too big to take to thrift and they were disappearing throughout the day.

They still have 3 file cabinets to go through and lots of pictures.

Two of 3 brothers were there. One wants to throw away everything, not even separate out in anyway really. One wants to keep everything. The mom just wants to tell you the story of everything.

I am so thankful my mother is doing so much of this on her own right now. I am going to send her a text telling her that.

I so wish you were closer, msbelle! I keep trying to clear out stuff. I really don't want my kids to have to do so, or my husband for that matter. Also, if I can get down to a minimal amount of stuff I can maybe move onto a boat!

Well, maybe I can plan a trip. I am only taking weekend trip all this year, I think. The one I have to take in May is paid for, so I just need to save up for another one I have promised and then I can save for airfare to FL.

Maybe I will go look at Southwest fares.

Hah! I was just thinking, I should fly to msbelle and we should road trip to Florida together--there are 3 national parks there that I need to check off after all! But that is probably my overworked brain talking.

Note from the more realistic side of my brain: My sister just got an amazing deal to fly out here next month so maybe there are good deals to be had right now.

I could not take the time to road trip, sadly. I want so badly a job where I can work remotely 24/7 and then I can ROAMMMMMMMM (well once E is graduated and moved somewhere and I do not have fosters and probably not until my parents are moved which will be next Nov at the earliest, probably).

hivemind - this is a super longshot, but in case any has Oneida stainless in the Rochester pattern that they do not want, I am starting to gather pieces of it in hopes of replacing my current stainless that I inherited, but do not really like.

msbelle, flights here would be either FLL or PBI, sometimes MIA, but not so many deals there. Southwest isn't a big deal here. The packing is minimal because sandals and shorts. Also, May thru October are kinda miserable if you aren't acclimated to steam rooms. Now if you want a summer excursion then Otter Lake is in Oneida county, yes that Oneida. You could thrift store wander for all things Oneida.

Gud, you had several parties very interested in your considerable skill set. I would contact them again. You need to feel appreciated and valued in the workplace. It is too big a percentage of your life to deal with unrealistic expectations. Enough of us work with software development to assure you that it is not normal to expect a new hire to be up to speed in less than 3-6 months, often longer. I know change sucks, but if it isn't a good fit, better sooner than later.

Even for contract work, they build in the ramp-up time, which has to be annoying, but unless you have a very elaborate spec laid out for you, there's so much system knowledge and business logic to get up to speed with.
